Overseas- phone won't tell time, is there a fix?

Hello,

I'm in England right now, and I'm traveling a lot and I was hoping to use the alarm on the phone. It just says searching for service, and I can't get it to tell time. The only reason I brought it was so that I had all my numbers and to use it as an alarm clock. Any advice on how to get the clock working?

thanks

i highly doubt that you'll get any time-related functionality as your phone gets the time from the service... let us know if you find an alternative...

The world clock, as someone mentioned, only tells you the times all over the world. It has nothing to do with setting your time. jkidd is right, the phone gets the time from the service, so no service=no time=no alarm.

T-mobile or overseas they're known as Telekom is throughout Europe so just change your NAM setting to auto and you should pick up their network and at least have clock accuracy.

Do you want to explain to me how a Verizon CDMA phone would, in any way, be able to pick up any type of signal (even if it is just time) from a GSM tower????

Europe is entirely GSM as that is governmentally mandated. There is no CDMA towers anywhere for the original poster to get a signal from.

Well, I lived in Baumholder, Germany for 3 yrs and had a Nokia 5185i and it worked. I purchased minutes for it every month through Deutch Telekom. So you tell me?

It had analog on it. You were getting an analog signal. The VX8100 does not have analog.
