I have Bitpim 7.36 and yes you can edit your phone book. Go to the Data menu and select Get phone data. Check off Phonebook and the "add" bubble. Then it will transfer all your contacts on the phone to bitpim. Then you can delete, add and edit existing contacts however you want. Then go to Data menu again and select Send data to phone (the replace all button is the only one you can pick). Then all those contacts that you edited will transferred to your phone.

Every time you Get phone data, it's saved in bitpim until the next time you make a change. kind of like a "back-up" in case your phone ever gets lost and you want to restore all the contacts to another phone--this comes in handy.

I have 2 phones and I like to keep 2 separate...

No problem. That's the whole point of the forum. Figure if we each try to chip in and help answer other people's questions, we'll get ours answered too!

Hubby has 8100 and I have Audiovox cdm8940 and I'm about to swap phones.

Can I use bitpim to get his contacts onto the PC and then put them onto the 8940? Or is there a better way?

Is any USB 8100-to-pc cord the same as any other? (In other words, will the one that came in the Music Essentials box work for other data transfer? I know I read someone else's answer in another thread but I didn't understand either the answer or the clarification.)

I think this is a "never mind" - read a little further into bitpim and it says the Audiovox 8900 doesn't work so I'm not prepared to try it.

I need some help with bitppim. I downloaded it today, installed the drivers, but my phone is not recognized. I'm not extremely computer savy, can anyone help me and make it simple for me to understand?
