im not big into stealing things or getting them for "free", but a friend of mine called the ins co, told them he had a 8100, when he had a 6100, and that he lost it and got a new one. does the insurance company know what phone u have, and how much trouble will u get in if you get caught????

He obviously is lieing to you. The insurance company DOES have record of what phone you have. You could have 12 phones with only 2 insured and they would know which 2. Also, when you make a claim on a "lost" or "stolen" phone, you cannot get a replacement unless you have a police report AND pay a $50 deductible. And to answer your question about how much trouble you would be in if you got caught? Well, you would be arrested for INSURANCE FRAUD!!!!!!

they go by the serial number on your account, and that tells them the model of phone you had active on there. We cannot even give people loaner equipment when they are waiting on their insurance claim becasue the serial numbers will not match up and they change it back to the original before they replace it.

Also knowingly filing a false police report I believe is a felony so that would go well with insurance fraud. Just finish it off by telling them you didn't get it in the mail and get the trifecta with mail fraud...
