Discomfort with BitPim

Hi.

I noticed an earlier post with a similar question, but it was unanswered, so sorry if this is repeating it.

I have the 8100 with v.4 and I want to put ringtones onto it, but I don't want to risk ruining my phone with bitpim. If the file is already in the correct ringtone format, can I just "Drag and drop" as the other post said and put it onto my phone? If so, which folder does it go into?

Thank you in advance.

No, you cannot drag and drop ringtones onto your phone or your card. Bitpim is very safe as long as you do it the way it was intended and don't go into the filesystem.

Okay, thank you. On the website, it gives a long explanation that involves retrieving contacts first, then making a copy of it, then replacing what's on there. Can you simply just send the new ones?

Then you go in and delete the two files (myringtone.dat and myringtonesize.dat) through the filesystem...which is a tedious move if you aren't familiar with the program.

Once all this is done, reboot the phone, and walla they are in the my ringtones folder. Now from experience, here in lies the problem. Once I did that, all the ringtones that i had set up for individual contacts changed. I'm wondering if that's related to the two files I deleted, but don't know for sure, and I've been looking on the forums but...

Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know of a way around deleting those files through the filesystem? I'm new to this stuff, and I don't want to mess anything up.
