If I buy the $30 cable from Verizon, can I take my pictures off the phone? It's unclear if you can only use that one for music... if so, is there one that can be used universally?

DO NOT PAY 30$ for that CABLE. Use ebay, i got mine for like 2 dollars including shipping, lol. Its only for ringtones and wallpaper and contacts

Although that's a great price, it defeats the purpose if I can't load songs onto the phone. $30 is a ripoff, but does it do everything?

All the cabless do the same thing. They do not load songs onto the phone. They do load ringtones, wallpaper, and contacts though.

The Verizon cable loads songs onto the phone. Does it also load ringtones, pix, and flix?

a cable is a cable, you need windows media 10( can get it of the music essentials kit verizon sells) and a cable to get vcast music onto phone.
You need a cable+bitpim to get ringtones onto phone
You can use just a memory card and card reader to get pix+flix+mp3+wave files onto and off the memeory card.
Now this is where i am not 100% sure, I do not know if you can get music on demand songs dowloaded from verizon from you pc to your memory card and have them play using the card reader. You can stick wave files into the my music folder and they will play, however verizon has some legality issues in their software and I have been told that the cable sends the songs liscense to the internal memory on the phone and the actual song ont...

I paid $30 for mine at Best Buy. I bought a cable on EBAY and didnt get any drivers with the deal. ( my own fault ) so I got mad and paid full price for a usb bluetooth. It is so easy to load ringtones and pics for wallpaper with Bitpim useing bluetooth. Also you can take pictures off of the phone with Bitpim.
