I'm thinking about upgrading from my LG 5200 (nice and small, without many features) to the vx8100 (bigger, more features).

Do you think this is a good idea? Are the features worth the size?

Also, the guy at the Verizon store told me that I needed to buy software for $30 (Windows Media Player PRO?) to be able to get MP3's onto the card becuase of the copy protection. Is this true? I'd hate to spend the $ on the phone and then have to spend even more on software and the card before I can use it.

Thanks.

you can buy the essentials kit, or you can buy a card and card reader and look through this forum about changing your phone to accept mp3 format instead of wma. Either way yes you will need to buy extra equipment to put songs on your phone, unless you just wnat to pay 1.99 for them off vcast music straight from phone. Sorry for the bad news but in my opinion it is worth it, you don't just gain the music function but a better speakerphone, better camera and evdo if you use mobile web or play games on your phone. If none of that really mattters to you then i would save your money.

2. Ringtones - There is no way to get new ones except to download them through GIN (Get It Now) I have tried several means of getting ringtones on this phone, via SD card and PIX messenging, and they end up in the "My Sounds" section, and you cannot move them to the "My Ringtones" section. (Major BS)

3. There is a nice front display, with buttons that allow you to view text messages, easily play your MP3's and see who is calling.

4. The Mp3 player is ...
