Another One Bites The Dust
Hate to quote Freddy Mercury but we have made a decision to return these phones based on what I deem just an OK phone. I am sure it will get better at some point and perhaps we'll revisit it then. I am going to have my wife continue with her month-to-month Cingular contract and I am thinking in two/four months when these phones (8100/815) have perhaps been updated and/or new phones (like the Samsung 970) have hit the market then we can bounce back to Verizon.
Thanks to this forum - you guys have been a big help.

Picture darkness and clarity
I took some pictures with my 8100. I set them as my display pictures inside and outside. What I've noticed is that they are really light and somewhat hard to see. If I tilt the phone up or down the picture gets darker therefore easier to see. I thought maybe it was just the pictures, but I sent one of the pictures to a 6100, and when they opened the picture it was dark and clear and much better looking than it was on my phone. Anyone have experience with this or have any suggestions to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

no service
Is anyone else getting terrible service everywhere? I havent gone passed 2 bars of service anywhere I go, and my old phone (VX-6000) had no problem getting service anywhere.
If for no other reason, this might be why I might return the phone

signal strenght
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase the signal strength? I was having volume problems as well as signal problems so I took the first 8100 back this morning and got another....thinking I got one in the "bad" batch. I have an old phone and it has a better signal than this one. Verizon said there isn't anything they can do and LG said it was Verizon's problem.

Questions regard QPST...
Ok, decided I've had enough of the lousy ringtone selection that this phone has and I'm not paying Verizon for something that sounds awful or the fact that the ringtones I want aren't available.
I broke down this week and ordered a data cable for this phone. I saw the tips on Howard Forums and it's posted to download the LG QPST (google it if necessary). I googled it and all I kept getting was forums like this one.
Question-- where does one get QPST (and Bitpim) from? Also do I need to wait for the cable or can I download the software now onto my computer so its there when the cable shows up?
Thanks!

Into Day 2 With The Phone and.....................
I am right in the middle!
We got two 8100s and while they are (thus far) livable - why should I have to pay $70 (for a family plan) and over $250 for two phones to have something just OK. We are going to give it through the weekend and then make an assessment early next week.
As stated, the phones are OK - the earpiece volume is low but tolerable - the speakerphone works - just have had comments like "you're fading in and out (even though I heard them perfectly) or "I can't hear you at all". And, yes, every recommendation made on this site I have done to both phones.
Here is my dilemma: my wife was coming over from Cingular and I didn't have any service - we could opt to stay with Verizon but then it still looks like we would have...

8100 or e815
After comparing and working with both the E815 is superior in many ways, especially as a phone.

Speakerphone
Can someone help and advise if there is a way to increase the volume on the speakerphone. When I use the voice activated dialing, a voice asks for a command, I can barely hear this. I have to have the phone right up to my ear and when I give the command I have to speak directly into the phone. Kinda defeats the purpose of voice activiation if I have to hold the phone so close to my mouth and ear. All the volumes are up on high, the ear and master volumes.
Any advise or resolution will be really appreciated. Thank you.

Another Problem...SILENCE
All of a sudden the phone stopped making any noises. No keypad tone no beeps, no rings. Tried to play the ringers...nothing.
Tried to make a call with my bluetooth and the bluetooth beeped and the voice command menu appeared, but the voice was not there and it wouldn't accept any voice command.
I shut the phone off...again no sounds.
When I turned it back on all of the sounds returned and everything worked.

Car Charger - Phone Heats Up
My VX8100 really heats up with the car charger.. OK with the home charger.. Anyone notice this??? Don't want to exchange it if it's not an issue as I have one that seems to work...
Battery Life - My experience
I have read several posts on here about the 8100's poor battery life. I have not felt I was having a problem, but decided to pay closer attention.
I started Wednesday morning with a full charge. I pulled my phone from the charger at around 7:30am. My time trial ended at 7:30pm Thursday. During that span, I put right at 140 minutes on the phone talking, sent 5 text messages, received 3, watched 4 Vcast videos, all around 2 minutes in length, and spent probably 15 minutes messing around with demonstrating ring-tones, photos, etc., to others.
When I put my phone back on the charger, I still had one bar, but was going out this evening and didn't want to take a chance on a dead phone so charged for about 45 minutes while I got ready.

Production Date?
Like mad scientists we are all grasping for anything to give us a clue as to whether there may have been a certain production that had more problems than others. I wonder if you all wouldn't mind posting your production dates to see if we can find a common denominator.

Contact LG directly with your problems!
Anyone having any problems should call LG directly at 1-800-793-8896 and chose option number 4. I just talked to a rep there and he claims that no problems whatsoever have been reported and if people would just call in then they would start developing the next software upgrade.
You can also email them at customerservice@lge.com
This is what I emailed them, feel free to copy and paste it and email it to them
I recently bought an LG vx-8100 and have noticed many bugs/problems
Hopefully they can be fixed in a software update:
here's the list:
1) When I use speakerphone others complain that the call quality is not good, they say that it gets crackly and they hear a lot of background noise as well as echo. It's not bearable for the...

BT Headset Reviews - HS820, HS850, Jabra BT250v
I have spent 11 days with the 820, and 4 days with the 850 and Jabra 250v. I am on my cell phone 60 to 70 minutes per day. I am definitely returning the Moto HS820. It is a nice-sized unit, easy to use buttons, comfortable to wear, etc., but it has too many problems. The sound on my end is often acceptable, but quite frequently static filled - I give it a 6.5-7.0 out of 10. The call recipient usually says I sound far away, or in a hole.
I picked up the 850 and Jabra on the same day. I used each for a full day, and am now alternating usage at different times. I occasionally get some wierd feedback through the 850, although overall it's not a bad unit. I have worn each piece for extended periods, and after a lengthy time, each is s...

Help me decide whether or not to return this 8100
I've been waiting on the 8100 for months. I'm not all THAT disappointed with it, like some are. However, there are two issues that concern me, and I need to make a decision before the 15 day trial is up. First, the fluctuating volume really bothers me. Its not like it goes so low that I can't hear the other person, its just that it fluctuates constantly, and its extremely bothersome. the other issue is the speakerphone. I've actually not even had a chance to try it out to see what others say about the quality of it. I had the LG4500 before moving to this phone and loved the speakerphone on it...nice and clear. People said they couldn't even tell I was on speakerphone. So if that IS an issue with this phone, I'll be disappointed. I'm okay...
