Got the 8100 today. (review from a non-phone techie inside)
Been waiting to switch to Verizon for a few months and was happy to finally get the 8100 in my hands today. I'd like to say thanks to those of you who made posts in an effort to keep people updated on the status and technical info for this phone.
So here's the scoop from my perspective. Right out of the box the 8100 was eye catching and felt durable and well made. The flip feels very solid and the phone feels a tad top heavy flipped open, but not bad. I tend to hold phones up around the hinge though and this causes my top finger to block part of the camera so I'm adjusting to that.
It has a great display and after taking a second glance at the 8000 I'm really glad I waited for this one. This one appears much easier to handle and get ...

VX 8100 Review/New Info/Comparison to E815
Wow, am I eating crow. Due to some feedback I received about my earlier post yesterday regarding the voice recognition software on the LG VX 8100, I decided to take a trip to a different Verizon Wireless store to see if I could re-check out this feature on the phone.
As luck would have it, the Sequoia store in SW Portland, Oregon not only had the LG VX 8100's to "look at", but were also selling them as well due to being completely sold out of the VX 8000. After an hour of testing the phone, I can assuredly tell you that it indeed DOES have speaker independent voice recognition software. What this means is that you do NOT have to record your own voice dials; the internal program matches your voice automatically when you want to call s...

Purchasing the 8100
Hey,
Does anyone know if you can purchase the phone simply putting it on your account? I heard this was possible but do not know the requirements or rules?
Thanks!
P.S. Has anyone had any luck finding the phone in Chicago?
1/2 the people that say they have the phone - SUUURE you do !
I called all kinds of branches yesterday and *611 a few times. No one knows anything.

VCast Delimma
I've been trying to decide on a new phone for over a month now but it seems no phone has everything I want except the VCast phones. The problem with that is VCast is not in my area and probably won't be anytime soon but apparently you have to pay the $15/month for it anyway just to use the phone. I want a good camera, speakerphone, and BT would be nice. I've played with a vx7000 and liked it but no BT or speakerphone. vx6100 has speaker but camera isn't as good and still no BT. Why can't they make a damn non-vcast phone with the features of the 8000/8100 or atleast make it optional! Any suggestions??

Actual Release - - Out in some markets already
Well for one of my last posts i would like to leave wit good news.
The actual release date of this phone is July 15 but the thing is that some of the markets have run out of the phones that this phone is replacing so you may be able to find it now
I live in cheyenne wyoming and its here and i bought it. Its an amazing phone and i love it. You will have to wait for a few more days if you want to get instant savings online or go ahead and wait for 4-6 weeks for mail in rebate. The phone was 199 less a 50 mail in rebate.
Thanks guys and gals!

Credibility meter
In your experience, who seems to know what they are talking about, and who is the type that said they had the 8100 on May 1? Let's make a list of who to believe and who to blow off.
Voice Recordings as Ring Tones?
On the 8100, I was wondering if anyone knows how to set a voice recording as a specific ringtone or if you can assign a song on the minisd card as a ring tone?
It doesn't have the "set as" option like the other lg phones have.
Thanks

e815 issues -- how does the vx-8100 stack up
two of my major concerns with the e815, which i bought last week, are the incredibly pathetic vibrate ring, and the low earpiece volume. I tend to recharge my phone every night, so battery life is not a real concern.
could somebody tell me if these two issues are better with the new lg than in the new moto? also, moto supposedly has better reception. can this be verified or disputed?
bottom line, is the vx-8100 worth an additional $50 over the e815? Thanks guys.
For the ones who HAVE the phone...!
I have the Samsung a890 until I can get my hands on the VX8100. I used to 6000 for over 2 years...
How is the camera on the VX8100????
The 6000 was alright, but grainy.
The samsung, I'm finding, SUCKS indoors (I also haven't really figured out all of the settings). I hope the 8100's camera is better than the Samsung a890's. I don't expect a perfect camera, I just want a good phone, with the luxury of a decent camera, but I need to know if it's worth ditching the Samsung to get the 8100!
As far as everything else is concerned:
Is texting/pix messaging easy? (This Samsung lets you VOICE everything which is kinda cool)
How is the battery life?
...and how is the keypad? Texting on this samsung, I notice a thousand mistakes cos you ha...

Is it really legal for VZW to cripple phones?
I think the reason why VZW can cripple these phones is because they get them first, cripple them then sell them to us.
Can't we buy a untouched phone through lets say LG or one of their ditributors, then contract VZW for JUST phone service, 2yr-1yr plan.
I would be upset if kodak would charge me for every photo I took off my camera and printed myself.
or
what if Creative charged us to put an mp3s on one of their Zen mp3 players.
Should we be mad at LG for allowing this (if we cannnot buy these outright) or VZW for doing all they can to make a buck?
This Cell phone business seems backwards.
Is there anything we as consumers can do about this??

BS on EVERY release date
The 11th, noooo the 15th... the 20th, I heard the 21st! There's enough hype already.
No one knows the EXACT date... I just heard the 14th, but hey, I'm not posting it with a hundred "!!!!!!" to get everyone excited then pissed off when the date changes again.
I'm on the phone with Verzion now and the guy is calling stores ALL OVER to see if they even have them in stock (or for sale sometime soon). Apparently no one knows a date. By the way- Release dates depend on your location. The phone could be available in Oregon and WA and NOT be released in NY or VA for another MONTH. The phones are supposedly only being distributed to businesses and corporate offices.

Found a store that carries the phone in Los Angeles, CA area
Here's the real scoop. I've called customer service several times today and also called a bunch of stores, everybody says it's the 15th. BUT I tried 611 one more time today and finally got somebody who knew what they were talking about. (I'm in L.A., so I don't know if this applies anywhere else.) The rep said that the phones are available through customer service, but will not be sold in stores till 15th. One of the catches is that the $50 rebate will not be valid until 7/15. So the price of the phone w/a 2 yr contract (renewal for me) is $199.99. So if you get it early, you will pay 199.99 and lose the rebate. But on the other hand, you take the chance of the phone being sold out in stores on Friday to save $50 (but you could always...

New York City & Long Island
I'll be going to a few stores today to see what I can find out. I want the 8100 because of my great experience with the 6000. I'll look at the 815, but I think the build quality will be noticeably less than LG, as when I compare the 6000 to the 710. With me, sturdy build quality is a high priority. I'll give a report sometime this evening.

Spoke with a CS rep and he did not even know the 8100 existed. he asked the rep sitting next to him and she knew nothing of it. i told him to look in his product guide and sure enough it was there to his surprise. all he could do say was that he could take my order on the 15 and wasent sure if my are stores would have the phone. it is pretty sad when the customer has to inform the service rep of their new products. he didn't even have the pricing so i told him in case anyone else asked him. damn verizon.
Just got my 8100 today
Just got my 8100 phone this morning in colorado. The phone is awesome! The feel and look of the phone is better than I expected. Not too bulky and screen resolution is high end. Just trying to figure out the options right now. The only thing I am dissapointed in, is the volume. Can barely here the other caller when I get a call. I went through and changed all the volume settings to the loudest, but volume is weak. If others out there were lucky to get one, do you have the same problem with the volume?
