Folks,

I just called Verizon at 800-485-1997 and ordered the i730. I did not have an account or service w/Verizon and only activated 1 line! You press option 1, then tell whoever answers what state you're calling from. Then they transfer you.

At first, the agent said that they didn't have it, then I told him that it had been released for B2B today and lo and behold, he found it in his database@ He initially said it was $484 w/a 2 year and $534 w/1 year. Then I told him that I thought there was a $100 discount if you get a data plan w/this phone. At first he said "No," then he checked w/his business department and came back and said I was right -- if you get the unlimited data plan at $44.99 a month you get a $100 discount, bringing it to $384.99 w/ a 2 year agreement!!!

Basically, I put the phone under one of my Tax ID/Business names - the one that I've had the longest (3 years - not a big company at all). Note--I didn't have to give my SS number. He initially said that most businesses need to have existed for 5 years to be pre-approved but that we'd give this a try. Well, after about 4 minutes on hold, he came back and said that I was approved!

I got the 900 minute plan for $59.99 and the unlimited data plan for $44.99 and insurance $6/month (steep). They offer free activation (savings of $35) w/2 year agreement. Shipping is $9. My total w/tax & shipping came to $421.54. They ship 2 day FedEx, so I should get it Monday as we missed the shipping cuttoff today.

Of course, I have 15 days to cancel once activating the phone.

One bummer -- they said that since the FCC allowed number portability that they weren't allowed anymore to choose "good (specific) phone numbers" anymore -- only the 3 digit prefix. They gave me 3 options.

They offered to sell me car charger for $30 which would include a free wired headset ("$20 value" -- yeah right). They have one bluetooth headset available for $75 but I declined.

Bottom line:
even if you don't have an account or any existing service with them at all, they will sell you this phone
w/only having to activate 1 line, IF your Tax ID can get approved through them.

If any of you have any ideas on how to maximize my experience w/this phone, please let me know. I'd like to set it up for push-email (don't have blackberry now). Don't know how to do that. I'm hoping to replace my Axim v50. I may keep my RAZR phone which I'm using about 2500 minutes/month on depending on how good the phone is on the i730.

Thanks all for this forum. I thought it was time to submit a post in case it could help anyone.

Sorry, didn't ask. Don't need or really care about that feature.

i got through to the "help you set up your i730" tech at Verizon. he was holding one in his hand and he confirmed that the camera function is NOT included in the version of the phone that they're selling through the business channel.

dang. so close...

i think it's 866-870-2357. if that doesn't work, try 866-830-2357 -- i kinda had a wrist spaz-out when i was scribbling down the number. great guy, very helpful.

there are 6 menu choices, all of which refer to products, so i just picked one at random and they transfered me to the right place. then, the first menu choice was "do you want help configuring your i730?" and in i went.

I didn't ask whether it came w/a headset or not. I guess it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't come with one, at least for the B2B people. They probably assume everyone's going to use BT. I'll let you know when I get it on Monday.

First of all, it didn't work doing your thing. I tried to just get as much info out of him before he asked for my credit history.
Second, how did you get it at that price. He said it was 600 with 2 year 800 without.

Well, I guess it doesn't surprise me that different agents handle it differently on the first day. It's too bad that they couldn't make sure that everyone sold it the same way across the board.

All I know is that I did exactly what I said, and it worked exactly like I said. I have an order number and have verified w/my credit card company that Verizon charged my AmEx $421.54 today. I'd be happy to send you a scan of the invoice on Monday -- maybe you can use it to get the same deal. I even have the phone # & extention # of the specific Verizon Rep that helped me, which I'd be happy to send you as soon as I get my phone (I don't want to run the risk of someone reversing my deal).

I'd just keep trying until you get an agent who will ...
