Upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0?

Does anyone know if this phone would be upgradeable with Windows Mobile 5.0 when it's available? And, even if it can be upgraded, would there be any compatibility issues to worry about?

Samsung said it can be upgraded. The question is IF VZN will do it.

Hmm... Does that mean if Verizon won't upgrade it to 5.0, there would be compatibility issues with their network?

I've never owned a smartphone/pda phone before so, I would like to find out how the upgrade process would work. It seems like 5.0 would be better (more features) and possibly more stable than the 2003 OS. Would an update work via USB transfer, a flash update/firmware update, or some other way?

I haven't upgraded a PDA with Verizon. To upgrade my VZN phone, I just called a customer service number, went through some menus, listened to some bad elevator music on my phone, and voila, it was done.

When I upgraded the software on my old Treo 600 with Sprint (three bad discussions), I was first notified that there was an upgrade available. I had to sync the data on the Treo with my computer to save it, download the upgrade via the phone, do a hard reboot, then re-sync the phone again.

WM 5 has been out for awhile now. Why did Samsung/Verizon release the I730 without it? The unit cost around 600.00 and now we all get to deal with the upgrade ourselves when it comes available. I had so many problems with the I730 and was told WM5 will fix almost all of them, but yet it was not released with the most up to date OS.
I feel burned.
Shame on Samsung and Verizon

This phone WILL be upgradeable to 5.0, it has been confirmed by a Technical Data Specialist within Verizon. Just as you were able to upgrade your i600 or i700 from Pocket PC 2002 to 2003 for free, this will be available for 5.0 on the i730.

Cool... Thanks! This is something to consider when my contract is up with T-Mobile early next year...

I had a Samsung I600 and the upgrade to the latest OS was painful at best. They ended up sending me a new phone and it took them forever to release the upgrade in the first place. I would not put too much faith in Verizon when it comes to upgrading the OS.

Spoke with a vzw and samsung data techs yesterday and was told that there is currently no plans to upgrade to Windows Mobile 5. (i had an issue with a server application that does not support pocket internet explorer, and was trying to find out info about the possible upgrade).... i hope they were just kidding

That doesn't sound encouraging. I think I will wait to see what happens and probably won't decide on a PPC smartphone until one comes out with Windows Mobile 5.0 as the OS. I want to have hardware that I know will work with the software, so I will just have to wait a little while longer...
