Motorola PEBL U6

Loving the pebl so far, but have run into a problem. Searched up the forum, but no answers. Is it possible to burn out the sim card? The phone is barely a week old, and somehow we get an error message: unregistered sim card. I noticed when trying to plug in the usb ac adapter to charge it, the green light wouldn't go on. I had to fiddle with the connection to get the phone to charge. Did I ruin the card inadvertently? Or are there issues with the pebl I'm not aware of?

First time post, thanks for any input. Not happy about having to buy a new sim card...
