Nokia 6101 / 6102

What's the difference between the 6101-Rogers and the 6102-Cingular?
Also, under the battery, it's not designated as 6101a or b? If you don't have the original box, it's not possible for a normal consumer to tell whether he's got 850 or 900? Buying this on Ebay will be a nightmare.

I thought I answered this: "6101 [regardless of the origin] has big square buttons. 6102 has small, prolonged ones." Look up pix on the internet.

If you don't have a box, call Nokia and have them to look it up based on the serial number (under the battery). Ask for serial number from the seller on the eBay. See where the item is located (specified on the eBay item description page). If in canada – it’s most likely 6101/850 – Rodgers stock.
There is no "a" and "b" trust me.

The T-Mobile branded 6101 will have the 850MHz band, just like Cingular's version.

plus he advertises PTT - but it's blocked.
There is a shortcut to it in the menu but it is blocked. So unless he doesn't help me over the phone to unblock it...

Plus, although the phone is unlocked and connected with Cingular immediately, there is a Rodgers logo printed on the phone and there is Rodgers internet link and settings that I cannot change to what I have in Cingular's 6230. So Internet or MMS doesn't work. I think I will be able to fix that with him or with Nokia over...

It's been 10 days since I paid now, and he hasn't shipped it.

I don't really use the Internet or MMS, but I would like to get that working. Perhaps once some cingular firmware shows up online, it will be flashable. (I need to check HoFo, they may already have a totally unlocked software on there)

PTT I still don't understand...with unlimited mobile to mobile, what's the point?

Did you receive an update from eBay with the tracking number - then you will be able to find out exactly when he sent it. call him and ask for that number. I got it from him over the phone and only in a few days did he post it to the eBay purchase.
Don't count from the day you paid - it doesn't mean anything. As i said, the guy is really slow... to send the goods.
call him and bug him. That’s what I did until I got the tracking number and could see it on the Canadian Post site - which extremely not informative (nothing like FedEx site where you can see every move/handower...)
But at least it will tell you if it was shipped.

To the two that purchased your Nokia 6101 from the Canadian ebayer-I understand what your going thru! I am soooo happy to hear someone else is. I purchased mine from him 8/25/05 and still have yet to recieve it. But it is true to say that if you bug the heck out of him that he will comply. I called him after I bought it and he said he would ship it the following Monday-so I said that's no problem. Well I called him Wednesday (8/31/05) and they forgot;they said it would be in the mail that day & that they would email me the tracking # 9/1/05. 9/1/05 came and no tracking #; I emailed and no response. Do you live in the states-are you trying to get a 850/1800/1900mz unlocked 6101 phone?

I know T-Mobile is getting the 6101 but I thought they were getting the 900/1800/1900mz one..??

I have Cingular and I called my rep. and he stated to make sure we get the 850mz one; but I didnt like the fact that the one we are trying to get from Canada has Rodgers branded on it etc..

What should we do b/c I still want the Unlocked 6101 but I am not sure which frequency to get for Cingular, etc..

you need the 850 for cingular.

Personally, I may just wait and get mine from Cingular.

I'm currently waiting for a paypal "dispute expert" to take my case.

T-Mobile just released the 6101 on Sept 12, with the 850/1800/1900 bands. :-) (the phone is locked to T-Mobile though.

I know there are special number sequence you can enter to open up all "advanced settings" option. What is it for Nokia?

I'd do the same but I REALLY love the big buttons on 6101 body.
I HATE what I see on 6102.
