Here are the locations for important files on the VX9800:
\Brew\16452\lk

and then a second post that elaboarted. i don't understand this whatsoever and you seem to know what you're doing. I'd like to know what you're talking about cuz i want mp3's as ringtones.

could u just explain a little more? are you refering to things within bitpim?

I don't mean to discredit joshieca, but I don't think they did know exactly what they were talking about. The info they posted was off of Howard Forums and is for an old version of Bitpim. On the newer versions, you don't even mess with the filesystem. Messing with the file system can really create problems for you or screw up your phone unless you are an expert. As far as asking if this info is within Bitpim, yes it did refer to Bitpim, but you do it a different way entirely. To put ringtones onto your phone you first need to download Bitpim:
http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/#download »
Then you need a data cable or a USB Bluetooth adapter to connect your phone to your PC. You can read through the Bitpim link to get more info, or you can...

P.S. Since the 9800 is such a new phone, it isn't even on Bitpim yet as an available phone to work with it, but it will be soon, as they update it regularly to include the newer phones that come out.

Hey Mary,

Thanks for helping out on this...I have been using the BitPim program and I have been able to upload like 5 ringtones following the directions on Howard's Forums -- minus deleteing the files -- but now I am stuck. I tried to upload some .jpgs and the phone doesn't see them....have you tried to upload images and/or .mid files as ringtones...if so, how did you do it using BitPim?

So glad you got the ringtones on there, and you don't need to delete files anymore, so your fine on that. I have not uploaded any .jpgs or .mid files because I put those directly on my SD card from my PC. Do you have an SD card?

Thats wierd because I have to delete the 2 files in the d/load folder and then reset the phone to get them on there. And I noticed that 2 mp3 ringtones is the load limit at one time between resets

Since the 9800 is so new, it's not on there yet, but it will be soon. Bitpim is usually pretty quick about getting the newer phones on there.

Well, as an entertainment device with a phone, the 9800 is great, but for a phone with entertainmment I prefer the 8100. I didn't like the bulkiness of the 9800 or the fact that for calls, the outside buttons were so tiny (I'm a woman with small fingers too) that it made it hard to make calls or use the menu buttons without making incorrect presses. Also, I didn't like that you could only view limited menu options from the front. I found the Qwerty keyboard awkward and so much easier to text on my 8100. I'm sure as with anything, you would get used to it, but I just didn't care enough about the phone overall to give it the time. It's very well built, sturdy and is cool, but I usually carry my phone in my pocket and this wasn't going to ...

Mary424 as you have indicated, the bitpim roadmap for the vx9800 is not yet established. The developers may have some info later on. But it seems the phone the developers have loaned to them are the ones they will directly support so it may be a long while until they get one loaned to them because of the price.

On the software that is free to download it does seem very helpful in sorting out the questions.

If anyone wishes to loan their vx9800 to the bitpim developers so the bitpim roadmap for the VX9800 can be created, here is the email [email protected]

If you want it here is the link:

It actually works, follow the directions and it should be fine..to be on the safe side I would backup any files before you choose to delete them...but it does work fine. (Just make sure you know what you are deleted before you do it) -- you could cause your phone not to work -- most case you would have to go to a Verizon store and exchange it, playing stupid like you know nothing about BitPim.

I am using the most current BitPim and a bluetooth connection; using the View Filesystem to edit/make changes.

FYI,
This is an old version, so you may not want to use this. Just trying to put you on the safe side. As I stated before, w/ the newer versions of Bitpim, you do not need to nor should you go into the filesystem. You do not need to delete files, also you don't need to choose the 8000 as these directions indicate because the newer versions have the 8100 on it.

Yeah but there is no version of BitPim out that supports the 9800 yet...so you should set the settings to either the 8100 or other CDMA phone (not sure if this needed to view the file system)...in any case following the directions on Howards for installing sounds, ringers, and pictures for an 8100 LG does work...just backup any files ...
