9800 Lock Mode Quick Activation
Quickly lock your phone without stepping through the menu's. The phone's Lock Mode Quick activation procedure is to open the flip to the keyboard. Press and hold the "x" key 3 seconds. Page 18 in the owner's manual is not correct for the Lock Mode Quick Activation procedure. De-activation as normal.

Actual the manual is very correct,
The manual is describing the quick activation for the KEYLOCK MODE...which is to hold the # key for 3 seconds. Because the only other way to set this is to wait at min 7 sec. What you are describing is also correct but it is for PHONE LOCK MODE, which completely blocks all users from making a call until a code is put in. The real difference is that keylock is unset by simply pushing the ok button, and its only on the front screen.
