I am very technologically challenged, so maybe someone can help me. I was in the verizon store today and one of the reps saw I had the 9800. He said that is a cool phone you can watch movies on it and took his SD card and put it in my phone and played a movie. I asked doesn't it take up a lot of memory and he said no you can compress it. Does anyone know where I can get the program to compress mpeg movies and how i would transfer them onto an SD card to put in my phone and play it?

Yes indeed, I do. I'm not going to make you hunt-and-peck around Howard Forums to find it either!

This is shareware from a company who used to make compression software--however they dropped support of the program for some reason or another...

Anyway to compress a video, goto "input file", next goto "output destination", select "Mobile Devices (3gpp compliant)", click the red circle and you should be able to save the file. It HAS to be converted to .3gp to work on your phone!

Hope that helps!

Zero,
Hey, thanks a lot. Now this is probably a stupid question to ask, but I just want to make sure I have the process down. First i download a movie on my computer, then I can use this program you gave me a link to and compress it. Then I can save it onto an SD card and put it in my phone. Is that right? Also you said it has to be converted to a .3gp to work on my phone... How do I do this, and when in the process would I do it? Thanks again!

When you put it on your card, make sure you put it into your MY_FLIX folder.

Hey, no problem! As far as the process is concerned, you're in the right track. Just take an existing movie file (though I'm pretty sure it HAS to be a .mpg file, correct me if I'm wrong though) and make sure the "output" is set on "mobile device". After that, save the file (it should default to .3gp automatically) and you can move it to your mini-SD card afterward. Make sure your card is formated first, the easiest way to do this is to insert the card beforehand and reboot the phone. All of your movies, as Mary said, will you in your 'My Flix' folder. That said, you should be good to go from there!

Good luck,

I actually found a program that's alot faster, streamlined and easier to use. Check it out:

Zero,
Ok I downloaded the first of the programs and I was able to figure out how to use it. One more question though. Does this program compress the size of the movie file so it takes up less space on my mini SD card?

Also, I see I have to purchase these programs. There arent any fre ones out there are there, lo. If ot its cool b/c I dont mind paying.

Yes it compresses the file so that is is MUCH smaller. A 30 min tv show shrinks down to about 8mb. To your second question...if you dont want to pay for the software then there are sites that to have the "cracks" for the pay versions. Good luck.
