If this has been posted, I'm sorry. I have looked but couldn't find a definite answer. I'm a 8100 user, but am checking for a friend as to whether the 9800 will be updated to use the VCast Music? I did see their is a V02 software upgrade, but didn't see mention of it being a M.O.D. upgrade.

Thank you.

Yes there will be an update to the firmware avalible in the first quarter. It's important to mention however, that once the update is made to the phone you will no longer be able to play the MP3 format 😡 . WMA is the format MOD will be using.

M.O.D stands for Music on Demand, Verizon's new vcast music capability which is activated on 3 models of phones so far. I assume that they are sending out an upgrade for the V9800's OS so that customers who have that phone can also take advantage of the offer. However, it seems as if this upgrade will switch the phone's MP3 reading capability to WMA and in order to use the music player all the music files would have to be converted from Mp3 to WMA.

so basically, nothing has changed, you can still load music using bitpim. you can still assign .wma as your ringtons. you can still do all of that. are there ANY draw backs from v01? where can i upgrade?

Well as far as I've seen it depends on what market you are in. The upgrade hasn't been released in all markets.

The only drawback i've seen so far is that MP3's can't be played anymore. But there might be more drawbacks. I'm planning on waiting before updating to see what sort of changes there are.
