Ringer ID

PSKKJM

Feb 14, 2006, 7:29 PM
I asked this before, but keep finding conflicting information. As I understand it, this phone does not have Ringer ID. Am I right?

Also, does that mean that you cannot assign ringtones to individual contacts?

Thank You.

Ringer ID? what exactly is that?

You can assign ringtons to individual contacts. I have not tried to assign mp3 ringtones to different contacts, but if you can get a prepared MP3 into your "My Ringtones" directory then yes, you can assign personal mp3 ringtones to each and every individual contact.

On the 7000 you can record a sound on the phone then use it as a ringtone. Can you do that on the 9800?

No, you cannot do that on the 9800. Unless you record the sound and then use bitpim to move it from the sounds folder to the ringtone folder in the phone file system.

I have some sounds saved ib "My Sounds' yet I want to move them to "My Ringtones" folder so I can assign specific sounds to individual contacts.

Is there a way I can do this. I know I never had this problem with the LG 8000 or the Motorola E815 before. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Incorrect. The phone does have the ability to assign ringtones to individual contacts. And as I understand it, that is Ringer ID. So, yes, this phone does have it.

That si the cool thing about the 7000. I could put MP3 files on the phone and then assign them as Ringer ID. Just has to be 30 seconds or less.

Yes, you could do that all the way up through the VX-8000. Starting with the 8100, you couldn't do that anymore as Verizon blocked it.

No they haven't -- I have mp3's assigned as ringtones to quite a few of the contacts on my phone -- its a relatively simple thing to do with the right tools.

I believe PSKKJM meant that he could record the sound on the phone himself and assign it as a ringtone. Or he could send the music file to his phone via PIX message and set it as a ringtone. That is now blocked by Verizon. You need a hack to do it. The phone won't do that out of the box.

I did it all three ways. I recorded as sound on the phone and used it as a ringtone. I sent files to my phone as a Pix message and used it as a ringtone. Finally, I used Bitpim and transferred them to my phone and used them as ringtones. Can you do any of these on the 9800?

Using Bitpim and a cable is the only ways to get any sounds/music as ringtones onto the 9800 that weren't purchased through Verizon's Get It Now.

sforsyth pretty much hit it

for the 9800 you need the cable and bitpim software..which i HIGHLY recommend for anyone with such a hi-tech phone..

plus who would want get it now ring tones anyways?

Call me crazy, but I have never used bitpim with either my 8100 or the 9800. I just find it to be a hassle. It is much easier for me to just download the ringtones I want from Get It Now.

>_< they cost moneyy,

well since the vx9800 is an mp3 player anyway, and i need to load music on it to make use of its mp3 player, i mean why not use an mp3 as a ringtone, esp if they are all free..

although for my old phones i did use Get it now to get my ringtones..

oh yeah if i use get it now to dl ringtones to the vx9800 are they polyphonic format? or are they acutal mp3s? on my phone?

Go to Howards Forum and poke around in the VZW-LG forum -- a poster was nice enough to post his fairly extensive mp3 ringtone collection -- made for a very nice Christmas Present from him......

All I needed to know is that there was a way. Bitpim is no problem. That makes the decision. If the 9800 is available June 1, I will be getting it. I wish I could do it before that but that is the earliest I can do it on my New Every Two.
