New 970 user... help!

Hey guys,

I just got a new SCH-a970 from Verizon. I've been looking thru this forum and I'm excited to learn more about the things you can do to this phone.

Firstly I'd like to say that I HATE how Verizon has restricted this US release model.

Ideally, I would like to flash the firmware of this phone so it no longer is affiliated with Verizon (screw VCAST) and just acts like the normal model. Is this possible?

If not, my main concerns are using MP3's as ringtones and using a bluetooth headset, being able to send/receive files via bluetooth. I've seen "bitpim" mentioned many times so I already have that. I've downloaded the USB driver from the Samsung website. My main problem is that I do not own a compatible USB cable... can I just pick this up anywhere?

Also, if I just got this phone two weeks ago, what are the chances my firmware is up to date? Can I update this myself? Or do I need to bring it into a store?

Even though I'm only asking about the above two issues, I'm very open to other "modifications" so feel free to speak your mind.

I will also browse this forum more thoroughly.

Thanks in advance!
