Hacking the OBEX?
The 810 or whatever has a million work arounds... why is it that we won't be able to hack around this crippled OBEX and have fully functioning OBEX? Granted I'm no expert, but is there a reason why this will not happen?

So I'm really confused. I know I'm a first time poster, but I have read literally every thread etc and I still don't know why we are that concerned about the OBEX being crippled.

Here's why:

And no phone hacker has been able to get a Verizon Motorola phone to push a file to another device, which is half the reason for Bluetooth. There is a Hacking Challenge for $500 on this post, so there are not really "a million work...

Interesting.

So one guy says it is impossible... one says he has done it.
Interesting.

Maybe you should read the responses a litlle more carefully and learn a little more about bluetooth. Bluetooth has many profiles such as OBEX,OPP,FTP,DUN...etc. verizon motorola's have been hacked to use OBEX and DUN, and I believe FTP but not some others suck as OPP. So some extra profiles of Bluetooth have been hacked BUT NOT ALL.
I'm sorry did I use the term Bluetooth in my original post? I thought I used OBEX SPECIFICALLY?
I have read ALL of the other post and understand very well that there are many different types of bluetooth... that guy said no one has been able to hack a motorola to move anything via bluetooth... which would include OBEX.. the other guy said he has made OBEX work on his motorola and i assume done that...
Did i ever say all bluetooth types? I said only OBEX.
So... why I should read more carefully?

Actually, 'OBEX' is not a Bluetooth profile at all, but it is a protocol that enables specific interdependent profiles to work.
Take a look at this thread, especially the first and last pages.

When people talk about OBEX, what they really mean is Generic Object Exchange, and you'll see, that consists of a bunch of profiles.
And I'm not sure how this got to be a test about if i know what bluetooth is or not...
All I wanted to know was if the OBEX being crippled could be hacked and put back on... such a simple question, unrelated to bluetooth
So... do you guys think it will be easy for people to figure out how to hack and make the OBEX work so files can be passed etc like on the altell version etc?
And if there are any more doubts about my knowledge of bluetooth i'll be appearing on a special bluetooth edition of jeopardy tomorrow night... Alex Trebek said he likes my hair cut... see I can say random things too.

I really don't know how we ever got onto bluetooth in the first place?
Mike - Sorry we lost you. OBEX is a part of Bluetooth.
The Verizon RAZR is going to have a new Verizon menu interface. Nobody knows if it can be hacked yet.
Bill
I knew it would have the Verizon interface, but I didn't know that that would be an issue with whether it would be hacked or not.
Hopefully we will know in the next couple days... that would be great...
or maybe they will get that hack walk through for the altell phone up over on howardforums...
Thanks,
