Motorola RAZR V3c
RAZR V3c Opinions from V710 User
Pros of V3c over V710:
1) Size/weight
2) Battery life using Bluetooth (seems quite a bit longer than with my V710)
3) Camera quality!
4) Charger connection (now std USB connector like my Blackberry, so can use same charger)
5) Sound quality and reception are good
6) I like the contact search function that lets you enter more than one letter
7) No obtrusive antenna
😎 EVDO internet access is very fast
9) Quality display and I like the icons showing phone status and other info such as missed calls, messages, etc
Cons of V3c compared to V710
1) Cannot password protect specific applications - for example on my V710, I had it set so a 4 digit code had to be entered to go to my inbox. This prevented possible "snooping" by girlfriends. In the V710, you can password protect access to just about anything individually. On the V3c I will have to lock the entire phone to do this.
2) Cannot customize soft keys or 4 home keys. On the V3c, you can ONLY customize the bottom home key, which is preset to Bluetooth. So, if you change this one, you cannot have Bluetooth anywhere on a key that provides easy access. I could care less having Get it Now as one of my home keys, but you can't change that particular option. You can't even change the right/left softkeys, which is crazy.
3) Phonebook condenses all numbers under one name. On the V710, as you scroll through the phonebook, it lists user individual phone numbers (cell, work, home, etc) as separate entries, making it easier to get to the # you want.
4) The center "Ok" button can be a challenge. I find myself not being perfectly centered and accidentally pressing one of the 4 surrounding buttons. More spacing or differentiating the surface feel would be nice.
5) No MP3, memory card slot
The VZW store was surprised that you can't customize the home keys and said it was their "new" VZ software, which she claimed was better than Motorola's. I asked what made it better, especially considering I'm losing functionality. She had this blank look on her face and finally said that their software was faster. After using it, overall it is fast, but not faster than the Moto software and occassionally seems to "hic-cup" and take a few seconds to complete a fuction.
I really like the form factor of the phone and doesn't have the bulge appearance when I drop it in my front pocket, which is where I carry it most often. I think I will keep it, however am considering exchanging for an E815. I bought the E815 for a friend and it improves on the V710 camera and has EVDO.
Just my 2 cents for people considering this phone. The software gripes may seem minor to you, but they're important to me and make the phone a lot easier to use.

Now the phone book issue, try this as this is what I did to make it put all numbers under one name. Go to Phone book, then press options, then setup, then you go to view and click on primary.
Also, under Contacts, Options, the VZW doesn't have any options to change the way you view contact list - you can either Call, Send Txt Message, Send Pix Message or Erase.
I wish VZW would let the manufacturer control the software, which is one of their core competencies. Verizon is in business to provide a service. They're not a software company.....

Oh, I wish the Verizon version was able to do that. Can't lock individual apps.

All I can say is Verizon just made a perfectly fine phone into crap. I would be very unhappy as you are right now, I too am used to those features you mentioned as I have a V710 as well. Wish there was an easy fix for you.
