Battery Life?

How is everyones battery holding up? I go through 1 to 2 bars a day depending on where I am and how good the signal is. What about everyone else? I have had some better but I just wanted to see if it was just me first or if everyones is about the same.

On this phone (and other broadband-capable phones), the critical determinant of battery life seems to be how good an EV-DO signal you get. With EV-DO turned on, I get barely 24 hours of life. With it turned off, it's like a "normal" phone (I recharge every other day and don't sweat losing it.)

Unfortunately, turning off EV-DO is no trivial matter. Here is a prior post:

If you don't need EV-DO data speeds, turning that off (a risky but doable procedure) can save a ton of life if you hang around areas where the signal isn't really strong.

You want to look particularly at post 2 and post 11 (I needed to resort to using the approach in number 11.)

Then in that case, I find the battery life to be about the same as my V710: 2-3 days with moderate use, 1-2 with a couple of hours of talk time. I was getting 16-24 hours to dead with no talk time with EV-DO turned on. I was on the forums fast to find out how to shut it down. I can live without VCast...really easily.

No, I doubt it. It's conceivable the phone still looks for EV and consumes some battery doing so, but I have no way of knowing if that is material.

Hmmm...I am wondering if I should take mine in then..If I put it on charge right before I go to bed at about 11 then take it off about 7 that morning usually by the end of the day around 7 or 8 I have used one bar and then by the time I go to bed the battery is have gone. I do a lot of texting and I do use the camera some but other that that nothing. Do you think this is about average?

No, that sounds wrong. It should last a lot longer than that. Maybe it's the EV. If you are adventurous you can turn it off. Some people have croaked their phone trying I surmise...I was successful.

C'mon man. The reference is in this very thread. You should read the whole thread before posting. Look at my first post in this thread.

I discovered today that the "fix" on HowardForums for turning off EV-DO has a serious flaw. I roamed from my service area in Boston to DC and the fix effectively disabled my phone. The setting "cdma" was automatically changed back to "auto", but the setting Hybrid "off" was not reset to "on". This had the effect of disabling my ability to complete a call. When I went in and manually reset the Hybrid to "on", the phone worked again. Unfortunately I am now back in battery limbo, since every EV phone I have tried drains rapidly.

I spent a bunch of time on the phone with an incredibly helpful and supportive network tech at VZW and he is looking into the battery drain issue for me. I will post information when I have it.

I did not try to disable EV-DO because my phone never goes on it. I went to the Verizon store today to ask about my battery life and I thought the lady was a little rude. I told her I have to charge it almost every night and she told me that when you have a camera phone, a phone with a color screen or anything like that is was going to drain battery life. I thought she could have at least offered me another battery. She offered to do the 15 day worry-free thing but I didn't see the point in that. I also didn't want to worry them to death. I have already traded in an e815 twice and then got the Razr. Hummhm

There does seem to be an open question of whether the simple act of searching for the EV network is draining the battery even when the network is not in that location. I think I am onto the right people to find out, who are not the average customer service people. Let's give it a few days. I am testing my phone again with EV on to see if the short battery life issue returns.
