verizon version. Is there a way to ajust the bcklight on the front screen, i haven't been able to figuere it out and couldn't find it in the forum. I hope there is becasue the external display is awful, i can barely read it.

I would agree with you that the external display is lacking, and in the Verizon UI there is no way to adjust it. The backlighting doesn't bother me as much as the size of it does. I am pushing 40 and it's getting harder to read small print, especially that display. Putting the contacts name in the red bar makes it even harder to read. I had to disable the "open to answer" option so that I can just open the phone to see who's calling without automatically answering.

yeah, but when you have a phone that retails at over 400 dollars that seems a little stupid to have to do that. I can't beleive they wouldn't allow you to adjust the front screen, it is small but the brightness is killing me. The front display on my 8100 is brighter than the razo even when the backlight is off on my 8100, that just doesn't seem right. I thought i just got a bad one so i looked at another and same thing?

My guess is that it is because of the thickness, looking at it from the side, it is pretty amazing that they were able to get two displays in that small of an area. Actually I just got a call, and the font size really isn't that bad, it's when you are out in the sun that it's almost impossible to see.
It all comes down to what is important to you in a phone. For me it was streamlining. I used to use a Treo, and while it did everything, the candybar form factor was a pain, as was the size and weight. It was like carrying a brick in your pocket. So I decided I just wanted a solid cell phone without email and a PDA. The signal strength blows the Treo away, and the buttons are huge compared to the little ones that I got used to. So far ...

yeah it is a good phone for 99.99 but for 300 bucks plus waiting for rebate i am really disapaointed. I am going back to my 8100☹️ it is nice but i use the outside display a lot, i get a lot of missed calls and i am used to flipping through all the missed calls on the outside dispaly of the 8100, the vibrate also kinda of sucks on the razor and i will miss my memory card so i guess i will keep waiting for a new phone.

Yep, it's all about what's important to each individual, and your needs are different than mine. I have and iPod, and even a Palm that will play music, the last thing I need is a phone that does the same too. I also couldn't care less about a camera on my phone. I have a 7 megapixel SLR camera for that, and hardly use the one on my phone.
Good luck with your search.

I also agree. My favorite phone has always been the moto startac. This phone lasted for 8 years (I gave it to my son about 4 years ago). No external display, about 2 color display inside, but it fit into my shirt pocket with no notice and it could take a beatin and keep on ticken. I loved my last phone, the audiovox 9900, the best iniside display of any phone I have ever seen but it was big, and no bluetooth. The razr reminds me very much of the startac. I don't need the camera or the music capabilities for the same resaons you mentioned, I love my ipod and my cannon elf. Just love the feel of the razr.

Yes the external display is hard to read and a bit on the dim side. I have the V262 and that display is large and readable but not color. It looks like Moto put the color display out there more for style effect then usefulness. It could have been done better
