Razr Problems?

dmbrisky

I was in a verizon store today and the rep told me not to buy the razr. He said that there have been numerous returns of the razr and that people have been experiencing many problems with it. One problem in particular was a buzzing sound in the ear piece after a call was placed. Does anyone know if this is true? Have any of you had problems with your razr? I really wanted to get one at first, but now I am not so sure......

I feel like it's very pricey to take this sort of risk.

One more point I want to make........

It must be pretty bad when the rep tells you not to buy the phone. Either that or verizon actually has one honest employee! 😁

I have heard that some of the phones have the buzzing sound, but I haven't experienced it. I have had the phone for two weeks now and have absolutely no complaints.

What are you looking for in a phone?

I want a phone that is small and cute but functional. A phone that has a camera, bluetooth, speaker phone, and text messaging. I currently have an audiovox 8600 and hate it. I have dropped calls, static, roaming in the middle of the city, and on and on.....I don't want to blow my upgrade on a phone that is destined for trouble.

I have wanted the razr ever since it came out for cingular about a year ago. My mind was set on the razr until I went into the store today. After talking to the rep, he suggested that I wait until January for the new blackberry to come out. Not the 7130, but an even newer model. It's supposed to be thinner and sleeker. Now I'm just plain confused as to what phone I should get. 😕

Well, it's my opinion that the razr would give you all that you want. I haven't dropped a call yet, and it completes calls even when the signal strength is down to one bar.

Honestly, I haven't experienced the buzzing at all. the sound is crisp and clear and people on the other end say that I sound good too.

I am coming from a Treo, which is much like the Blackberry. For what you want in a phone the BB is overkill. I wanted to go to the razr to simplify my phone. I always need my phone, but don't always want to carry my PDA, which is what I was doing with the TREO. When I heard the razr was available, I bought it immediately and used my NE2. I bought the first one from the VZ store I went to, and love it.

What's the worst th...

The January phone the rep is talking about must be the Motorola Q. It runs Windows Mobile 5.0; it is not a Blackberry device.

I have the RAZR and have had no sound problems. In fact, the phone has been fabulous save one issue: the EV capability drains the battery really fast when I am at home because my home seems to be equi-distant but not very close to several cell sites. Constant searching for the strongest signal seems to be the culprit. I have experienced the same problem with the Blackberry 7130e. I gather from other forums that some number of people experience the same problem with each of the EV phones including the RAZR. That may account for some of the returns be...

I heard the Q wasn't coming anytime soon to VZW, but one rep did tell me that the new smartphone they were coming out with was the new Audiovox Apache (PPC-6700). I was telling him that I was tired of carrying a brick (Treo 650) in my pocket and he told me that the new Apache was going to be a lot smaller.

But I could be completely wrong.

Thanks, that's pretty cool. It's odd that VZW would have that phone so quickly.

the problem you are experiencing can be linked most likely to the display. when the backlight is on fully after making a call or touching a button you will hear a slight buzz. when it times out you shouldn't hear it. and if you think that is bad it does it on cingular too. also gsm hsa way more interference issues with electronics causing feedback on stereos, speakers, tvs etc.

I have had this phone since the first day it came out. This is an excellent phone. I have heard people complain about a buzzing noise. It is the very faint noise. Honestly, I would have never noticed the noise. With so many posting about the noise, I went searching for the noise and yes if I put the screen up to my ear and I can hear a very slight buzzing noise. I can't hear the noise when I am on a call.

The battery life is fine considering the size of this phone. About 1-1/2 days when not using bluetooth and 1 day when using bluetooth. You have to live with some tradeoffs with a phone this size.

If you really like the Razr, you can always try it for 15 days and return it if it does not work out for you.

At times, their se...

the noise I have is not the OEL display...it is distortion plain and simple. the 1st razr I had did not have it, but this one does. and I would completely agree with verizon if it only happened at max volume, but it doesnt. I can call #646 at volume 5-7 and hear it when the computer speaks. I showed it to verizon and they told me its my fault. no bias here. 🙂 I love verizon but this is downright pathetic.

My girlfriend had the razr with Cingular and noticed this exact same problem. Everytime I talked to her I could hear it on my phone as well, very irritating (she tried to trade it in, they gave her the runaround and she switched to VZW). I have the razr now on VZW and have had it for about 5 days and I haven't noticed the noise at all.
The only complaints I have so far are 1. I don't really care for VZWs user interface and 2. the battery life leaves a lot to be desired. Neither of which will cause me to return the phone. I will be traveling the next few days and I'm going to keep an eye on the battery life and other things to make sure everything works as it should.
