anyone else having problems with AIM?

i upgraded to the mda from a sidekick (which has a fantastic version of AIM) and i'm so disappointed in the MDA instant messaging.

the AIM delivers IMs hours after they were sent. and the only way to see away messages is to message the person and actually get a message back. i don't want to message every person just to see their away message.

the sidekick conveniently had everyone's away messages actually listed next to their screen names. we use AIM alot at the office, but the MDA's AIM is more trouble than it's worth

Yea I thought I was the only one with the problem. Finally I got tired of fooling around and waiting on messages. So I tried to sign off, but it would not let me. It would just sit there for like 30 minutes showing that it was trying to sign off. So finally I just turned it off then turned it back on. Yea I must add that when it came to AIM I don't know if there is a phone that beats the Sidekick-II? You might want to try calling your service provider and see what steps they can do, to further assist you in resolving this problem.

yeah i understand if it's not AS good as the sidekick. but the AIM is almost unuseable. another thing i noticed today is that it shows people who are away as not being away. so i IM them only to get an away message. FRUSTRATING. i really hope they come up with a better, updated AIM soon.

Thats funny you guys mention this because I was thinking the same exact thing today.... I'm sitting at work trying to aim people and it takes hrs for it to come thru making it impossible to have have a consistant conversation with people on your aim.... I will have to say thats the ONLY thing I miss about my sidekick

Yup. Join the crowd. I also swithced from the sidekick. Who would have thought that could potentially be a better phone... if it only had bluetooth and a number of other things. But for sure, IM and to some extent even email was better...

Is there no fix to this IM problem?

Any updated rumors about the Sidekick III? I'll be really upset if it comes out in a month or so!

Usually the original chat programs that come with the phone pre-installed have some issues, but i remember using verichat on my ppc back 2 years ago with WM2003 and it worked great, but atm verichat has not released a version for WM5. I found a site that is beta testing a program and it has the chat services bundled hers the website... http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php ?t=44082
