Now this is just a simple reminder to all of those who bought or are planning to purchase this phone.. If you manage to aquire one of these little phones for your account you either had someone like me buy one or found a rep that wasn't supposed to sell it to you.. Or lived in a test market.. HOWEVER!!... This phone was designed for corporate accounts that have access to corporate plans.. If you at one time had "Unlimited Vision", or "Unlimited Text" you will no longer have these features! You must have an EVDO plan offered to these types of accounts!!. Now don't get me wrong, the phone will work on a basic account plan, but if you don't have the type of account this phone was intended for then you should be expecting some substantial charge...

I'm not too sure about this. I've had the phone for a few weeks now and I have not had any addational charges applied for using EVDO services (when I can get EV signal). I have a Vision Professional pack (unlimited data, text, pic, video, bla bla bla). Can't access the good old Vision WAP pages, but oh well. Full web pages are better, and TV on WIFI is awsome; plus remote desktop, I hate to say it but bye-bye 650.
The bat life varies, but I get about a day of standard usage (3.5 hrs talk, 3 hrs web). WM5 is a mem beast and it's slow as $h!t but it works. No more one handed operation, so texting while driving is out the window; I'll live.

as far as the vision and text messaging.. It is better safe than sorry.. I would rather tell people this that way the account can be correctly documented.. Being that the phone was built for corp accounts and that the phone is "suppose" to have an EVDO plan I would rather have the notes on the account from a care rep saying that I shouldn't get charged just in case I do.. Other than that the only things that I don't really like are the fact that the 6700 doesn't support OBEX or Picture Mail accounts... That sucks because I used them ALOT on my 6600.. oh well, the bad with the good right? DL

can't you use mie to browse to pic mail and upload. not as clean as uploading from the phone, but its something.

What is the charge for the data plan? In addition to the standard voice plan, I plan to use EVDO on the pda AND also use the phone as a modem for my laptop.
I've spoken with a sprint PCS rep and he told me that
1) I need a voice plan (makes sense)
2) I need a vision plan for modem = $25.
I was told the $25 plan covers data access up to 40 MB. After 40 MB, I would get charged $0.01/KB of data.
Does this sound right?

sounds right but you will need an EVDO voice package which is not available in all markets just yet. only about 12 as of current. with the purchase of Alamosa PCS (biggest sprint affiliate) they should have EVDO coverage on 80% of the major markets by aug of next year. if you do live in an active EVDO network then ask care for business and request the EVDO options available to you. hope this helps. I'm looking under the website for our corporate account and it looks like the only option is to add a "Vision Professional Pack" which shows a price of $15 when added to the cart, but it also says:
"(Additional $15/month for Sprint PCS Vision Smart Devices that use the Microsoft Pocket PC Operating System)"
Sure I get a 20% discount, but does that mean this phone forces me to lose my free unlimited vision access and leaves me with only one option that costs $30/month???? Paying an extra $360/year on my phone bill is going to mean no more new phones for a long long long time for me. No matter how cool this phone is I'm sure I'll want another one in a year or two. Aaarrrgg!!

the system can be manipulated using Sprints "P2K" operating system with care when you call. I had I mine done and I was able to keep all my "unlimited" features. i.e. sms, vision, ect, ect...

P2K??? Please elaborate. I thought you previously mentioned that you would end up with data charges if you didn't select a new Vision plan and just did an ESN swap to keep your old unlimited vision access.
I mainly want to do the same stuff I currently do on my i500 (google addresses, movie times, and a few misc. searches along with logging into my google gmail account to occasionally email a picture from this great phone) Can't justify an extra +$300/yr wireless expense out of pocket when its currently free.

no problem. "P2K" is the operating system (one of two) that the customer care reps from Sprint use to make changes and edit our accounts. The other os is Premier.. Well while using P2K they can manipulate the system to get the results we talked about. Sad to say alot of the current reps you'll get ahold of now are pretty stupid and don't know the concept of "TRY IT".... So you will have to call in a couple of times to get a rep willing to finally help you out. Now as far as just the ESN swap and data charges that is what this is for. If a "wet behind the ears" rep tries to help you and activates the plan they will put it on an EVDO plan and will remove your unlimited VISION,SMS ect..ect.. But if you get the "ideal" rep they will use P2K to g...
