Format memory card?

Hey all!

I just picked up this phone today, and it's my first PDA/Pocket PC phone.

I found a mini SD card I had around the house, but I can't find any menu option to format the card. Is this what "Clear Storage" on the Programs menu is for? Or is there somewhere else to do it?

Thanks!

PS-This may be the first in a string of newbie questions....bear with me 😁

I'm having the same problem. I'm new to the Pocket PC OS. I inserted my 1GB MiniSD and the OS doesn't see it. If I sync I also don't see the SD card via explore.

Thanks for any help you can give to this issue.

Odd...I pulled the MinSD card out of my VX9800 and slid it into the 6700.....worked right off the bat. Not quite the same as your issues. I'll have a look.

As far as I know, if you insert an unformatted card, the OS automatically offers to format the card for you.
If the card is already formatted, the OS should just "see" it.
Also, you could just try formatting it in a card reader attached to a desktop computer.
Hope this helps.

I can see my card inserted into my laptop. In fact, I've loaded some files on it. With the card inserted into 6700 the system settings memory app (with the "storage card" tab clicked) sys that there is no memory installed. Is there an update to the OS? Is it the fact that is is 1 GB? I'm new to the PocketPC OS I don't know if there are any updates to WM 5.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

ericsphone,
you shouldn't need and OS update, all I can think of is your sd card might be formatted for a different OS, for example, the SD card was formatted in a digital camera or mp3 player or the like.
Also, the SD card could have errors on it, I suggest running "scandisk" on your laptop to ...

SD, and Mini-SD (exactly the same) as well as other memory cards of the liking are not required to be formatted like a floppy disk used to. They have non-volatile memory that work regardless in any device that supports the format. If your not wanting the data on there, just use the PPC-6700's file explorer to delete the files off of the card. Other than that, there's no way to "format" it, if what your trying to accomplish is a fresh card. Good luck!

I was just looking for a quick way to delete all the files on the card I found without having to delete each file individually. Does anyone know what the "Clear Storage" in the programs menu does?

I thought that I should report that I've found out why my 1 GB card doesn't work. Kingston tech support told me that only miniSD cards 512 MB and less will work in the PPC 6700. I bought a 512b MB and it works as others in this thread have reported it should.

I guess the next question to ask is will the 1 GB ever work in my 6700? Is it a matter of an OS upgrade?

Any thoughts?

All the guys/gals at ppc6700users.com are using 1gb and 2gb cards in their 6700's with no problems at all.

I've got a Kingston 1GB miniSD. Kingston Tech support told me that their 1GB miniSD won't work in the PPC-6700.

As far as the specific problem it causes, it is just not recognized. If you were to take your miniSD card out of your 6700 you would see what I see when I insert my 1GB Kingston. It's like there is no card inserted.

My SanDisk 512MB miniSD works fine.
