XV-6700 always connected datawise?
I was just looking at getting the XV-6700 from verizon. I asked them if I wasn't using the unlimited data plan for a while if I could cancel that part. The salesman said that would be a bad idea as it would incur huge costs since the phone is always communicating with the data part of the network. Is this true? Is it possible to only use it Wi-Fi if I want, or not use those functionalities at all? Been searching for these answers but yet to find anything.
Thanks for any help...

I think he is BS'ing you! You can get the data plan and later drop if you want. I am looking at this phone and have several Wifi hot spots around town (customers, hotels, starbucks, and such) that will allow me to transmitt orders to my company. Not interested in spending $39.95 for the data as I will not receive email, transmitt data, and files. you can still get the mobile webb if you need it $4.95 in think in most areas. And yes you can buy it and use it as a PDA and Cell Phone only.

I have this phone, with verizon, and no data service. It took the sales *staff* to properly configure the phone before I left the store, but in the end, I haven't been billed for any data services.
I'm glad the WiFi and Cell services can't be enabled at the same time. It prevents me from thinking I'm on a WiFi connection, then suddenly racking up EVDO bills. But I could be wrong. My phone might not even be enabled to allow any EVDO connections, since I have tried to use Internet Explorer, and got nothing, until I realized I didn't turn on the WiFi.

I just got my first bill since purchasing the 6700 and it was $1186.95. I had one call over $500... I didn't have the unlimited package when I first hooked it up, but now I do. They (Verizon) are good about correcting first time mistakes and gave me about $1000 of it back, so it's cool. If anyone knows how to walk me through setting up the WiFi on it I would be much appreciative. I live in Alabama and we still don't have EVDO so I would like to use WiFi when available, for better speeds. Any help will be much appreciative.
