active sync exchange setup

I'm having trouble setting up Active Sync 4.1. I can't figure out what to enter for the server name. It gives a clue that it's the same as using Outlook exchange (mine is lw-oc.com) I tried lw-oc, lw-oc.com, and others with the help of Verizon PDA support, but none worked. Verizon guy helped far beyond what he was supposed to - they don't do software - but he hadn't ever set this up.
I'm sure this is very simple. Any help appreciated !

Use the same FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name as your mail server has on the Internet.

An example would be mail.lw-oc.com for a typical setup.

Your Exchange server also has to be set up for ActiveSync.
