Palm Treo 700w / 700wx
Is it true? No MP3s on the Treo 700?
I'm only asking because I'm probably going to be buying the phone on Tuesday and just want to know what I'll be getting into... I was hoping to assign mp3 ringtones to certain contacts... I got used to it with my current phone.
TIA!!!
1. 700w has Windows Media Player 10
2. 700w has removable memory
3. PDA Phones cannot use VCAST Video/Music service from verizon
4. Current VCAST phones support playing personal MP3s
So, I would have to say yes, it will play MP3s. Microsoft would throw a sh*tfit if they disabled WMP10.
So back to my origianl question.... Can any current users of the Treo 700w play MP3s?
TIA
So there seems to be some fallout from Verizon's music download service -- users who choose to "upgrade" their handsets to support the Verizon Wireless music store are doing so at a tradeoff: you'll no longer be able to play MP3s on your phone. The new phone software prevents you from playing MP3s on the phone as a result of an agreement Verizon Wireless made with Microsoft, the latter of whom stipulated that if the Verizon Wireless music store was gonna fly at all, MS wanted to make sure that phones using it could only play back Microsoft's audio format. Supposedly there is an intern...
(continues)
Yes, 8100 (with new sw), 950 (with new sw), 9800 (with new sw) won't play MP3s, they'll play WMAs. But YOU choose to go for Music-on-demand or MP3 capability. That's not going to affect other phones (at least not anytime soon) and most certainly not going to affect the PDAs. 🙄
Sometimes I wonder can people really read...
Yes I can read thanks for asking! It didn't answer my question. All I asked was a simple question - I don't want to play WMAs I want to play MP3s, that's all. No need to get ****y about it....- you must work for verizon....
Thanks for your round about answer anyway... Have a nice day! and have a drink on me!
Supported audio formants: MP3, WMA, PlaysForSure®
Supported video formants: 3GP, WMV
Good enough?
Obviously with 3rd party SW u can play MPEG, AVI, WAV, OGG etc...
PS. I don't work for vz, I would like to though
PPS. UOMe a drink 😛
I go into the specific contact and set one of those as the ringtone. But, the Treo 700w won't play it and when that person actually calls me, it just plays the Windows default ringtone instead.
Is there a trick to it? If so, can someone tell me how to do this?

STOP! Right there, you did it, answered your own question. There is no PDA that will use the wireless music store.
