Can someone PLEASE clarify email issues for me??

Ok ... Picked up my Treo Tuesday and finally decided to play with the email today. And found someone interesting things.

For starters ... I do have an Exchange account at work, but it requires accessing via HTTP settings in Outlook 2003, so I'm assuming I can't do that on the Treo.

I loaded WirelessSync from Verizon, and set it up to access one of my pop accounts, and it seems to work fine.

I then went into Messaging to set up an additional POP account, and it works fine as well.

1st question: Is the 2nd account which was set up via messaging using WirelessSync?? Or just the normal Windows stuff (bottom line .. do I really need WirelessSync at all)????

2nd question: I went into MSN options to access Messenger the other day. While I was playing around with email today, I noticed that all of my hotmail email had been downloaded. Again, is this using WirelessSync or just normal Windows stuff ... and is it using the SMS messenging or just internet access.

Haven't really found a good clear explanation of all of this, so hate to appear stupid!!

Thanks, folks!

The Treo 700 has several options for retrieving mail. 1) Wireless Sync 2)Messaging POP/IMAP retrieval 3)Active Sync Exchange. So to answer both your questions, you seem to be using multiple options at once. Messaging works on its own, and so does the MSN Messenger. You do not have to use Wireless Sync with this device to retreive email.

Thanks. That definitely clarifies things and seems to match what I've discovered.

One more question: On the POP setups, I checked the autosync function to check for messages every 15 minutes, but it's not doing it. If I do a manual send/receive it works fine, but it isn't picking up messages automatically. Suggestions?

I've had the same issue. I've noticed this even when I leave the messaging application running in the background. Thoughts?

I believe the phone cannot process data and voice at the same time. If you sync every 15 minutes the voice calls will go to voice mail while trying to sync email. Someone correct me if I am wrong. 🙄
