iTunes doesn't recognize my phone

I am having tremendous trouble with iTunes recognizing my phone on my pc. I bought the phone on ebay from a gentleman who had the phone set up for use with the Cingular network and with all the Cingular features. I know the iTunes worked for him b/c he sent me a memory card that had iTunes songs on it and played it in my phone. But with that card or a new one with more memory, my iTunes still won't recognize it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried upgrading my iTunes version, deleted it rebooted it, etc, nothing works... Thanks in advance...
