What phone is better the unlocked version or the Cingular version? I have the unlocked version right now. I like the unlocked vesion becuase you can use with different carriers even Nextel, but the only bad thing about the SIM of Nextel is that the phone does not get service from the card, it only recongnizes it.
This phone is cool when its unlocked. I think it has more features when its unlocked. By the way the unlocked version (my phone) came with 15200KB which is about 15 MB, right. Just some thing if you need to know.

is the cingular branded one the only one with itunes? i bought the d&G one but i think i read some place theres a way to get itunes on an unlocked v3i
...
No I have the unlocked version and it came with itunes.
...
if it came with itunes it means it was probably a Cingular phone that became unlocked, cause i got a Slvr L7 straight from Moto (unlocked if you will), and it didn't have itunes, but it did have push to talk.
The annoying thing about unlocked or straight from the manucfactor is that it doesn't have any of the cingy settings, like media net or voice mail, you have to set it up urself which can be a total pain
...
I had to set it up by myself! I had to set everything up since it wasn't already set up. Mine did not come with media net nor voicemail.
By the way I have'nt set up my voicemail becuase i don't know the phone number.
...
It did come with itunes somehow. Maybe the lady who sol it to me put it on but i don't think so becuase the phone it the beginning said Configure settings or it would say Personilize phone. I think mine is unique from the other unlocked v3i becuase it came with more features ike i said in the beginning. Mine costed $600. My menu system is newer than the other v3i. Still thinking how did they upgraded if it was sealed in the box? Maybe Motorola made my phone different. Are all the phones (that are unlocked) european? Mine is!

Wow, such in-depth comparison.
No carrier-specific features and u found cannot be used on an unlocked then.

The features I miss are...
Network time sync from a locked phone. I haven't been able to figure out how to auto set the time on my unlocked v3i so I have to manually set the time if I have to remove the battery.
Lack of AIM client on the unlocked phone. Text alot and REALLY miss this.
I've had trouble with some data services such as Google Mobile Maps but MMS and Mobile Web works just fine.
On the upside,
I do get to store 80 text messages. It seems the past (more recent) locked moto phones would cap at 40.

I have IM on my phone (Came with it, and I rhink something is going on with my phone's time auto sync. Well When I take the battery out and put back in It sets the time automatically. I dont have the setting Auto Sync. I don't know why it does this but it does.

I just purchased an unlocked version and the Auto Time sync was not even available as a choice, which really bothered me. Luckily with just two SEEM edits and I had the menu item available and the time synching-up just like the locked version.

Hmm.... maybe it's time for me to try a seem edit again. I had issued getting p2kman to see my phone. The phone works fine in MPT though.

Do I have to buy the Motorola Phone Tools CD to transfer stuff to and from my cell phone which is a V3i? Does it upgrade my software? Do I have to configure my phone setting to tranfer files?
Thanks to whoever helps me out!
Need Info by September 23, 2006. You can all still post after this date. I just need this information right now to decide if I'm going to oder it from Motorola on Saturday!
Thanks!

I'm able to sync my V3i with my Mac without the need of MPT. Bluetooth or USB do the trick just fine out of the box. With Windows you may need MPT for USB transfers, not sure about BT and Windows.
