Data Plan Question

qkoll

May 24, 2006, 12:44 PM
I am very interested in the Q. The Q will be be my first PDA-type device since the old Palm Pilots. My primary reason for a Q is the ability to check my corporate email.

Will the $25 VZW Data Plan (for 10MB) be enough?

Since I do not plan on doing much Internet browsing, I think I'll be OK.

Can you guys give me your thoughts on my assumption that the $25 plan is going to work for me?

depends if you get a lot of attachment and if you have it set to constantly check for email.. and then are you not going to be temped to use the web..

I say you just go with one of the bundled data plans it'll probably save you in the long run. I'm going to do the 109.99 bundled voice and data.
if you do the math thats 79.99 for 1350 and 30.00 for the unlimted data plan
now you want to go with the 25.00 10MB plan so if you go with the same 1350 minutes = the 10mb your only saving $5.00
I think you can see the unlimted data is defently the better option

Go with a bundled plan.
Stand alone plan costs $29.99 for 10Mb.
If you do the math on bundled plans - you are getting unlimited for $35.00 or less.
For the extra $5.00 - it's worth it.

However - if you think you will not use the web at all - just do "pay as you go" and pay for Kb... but this will cost you in the long run if you have much usage.

Maybe it's just too late to do the math but can you clarify your logic as to how bundled data/voice plans give you unlimited data access for $35 or less?

its pretty simple

450Anytime Minutes =39.99
unlmited data = 44.99
total = 84.98

Now the bundled plan
450anytime minutes & unlimted data = 79.99
you save = $5
---------------------------------------------

1350Anytime Minutes = 79.99
unlmited data = 44.99
total = 124.98

Now the bundled plan
1350anytime minutes & unlimted data = 109.99
you save = $15
--------------------------------------------- -

4000Anytime Minutes = 149.99
unlmited data = 44.99
total = 194.98

Now the bundled plan
4000anytime minutes & unlimted data = 169.99
you save = $25

ah I should have made it a bit more clear with the data pricing

for the bundle pricing this is the pricing structure
39.99(voice) + 40.00(unlimted data)
79.99(voice) + 30.00(unlimted data)
149.99(voice) + 20.00(unlimted data)

as you can see you do get a pretty good saving on data this way

Can the MotoQ be tethered to a laptop? If so, is there a charge?

Also, is there voice recording on the MotoQ?

Thank you!

the offical VZW answer is NO you can not teather its against your TOS. however the phone does support DUN(dial up networking)
so it is possible just don't be calling tech support trying to make it work.

as for voice recording I'm not %100 but I believe one of the reviews I just read said it did and also along those line the voice commands do work via the BT headset
