POP mail deletes mail on server - help!
I couldn't find the "leave mail on server" option in the Q mail set-up and wanted to make sure it wasn't going to delete my inbox on the server.
I called Moto support and they told me there is no such setting. They claimed that it was a server side setting (which I found hard to believe because I've never seen it on the server side - it's always on the client side - including in Outlook set-up)
To be safe - I decided to synchronize with a different mailbox first to see what happened.
My my delight - when I synchronized with my "GoDaddy.com" mail account - the messages all stayed on the server.
Seeing that this was the case -...

It is hard to believe that they dont have that function to leave mail on the server when removed from the device. Its a Win Mobile issue. The features suck.
I spoke with Moto about this.
They informed me that the Q will delete messages on your POP3 server when you delete them from the Q.
They said there is no setting to disable this, but they will recommend it for future releases.
I personally can recommend 2 things to you:
1. Use 2 e-mail accounts. This is the way I have my mail set -up and it avoids this problem.
I have my primary account set so that ALL incoming messages get cc'd to a second address.
I use POP3 on the Q with the 2nd address so that the original messages are still in the first account. My home PC is linked to the first account.
2. Set the Q to only receive 1 day of mail, and just never delete anything.
Are you sure you're not remembering your MS Outlook set-up?
1. Open messaging
2. Open Text Messages
3. Press Menu and open options
4. Select D Account Options
5. Select email account under Account options
6. Press menu then scroll to Delete
7. Delete Account: Alert- Read message and then select Yes or No.
8. Pop 3 account now completely clear from the phone.
What the phone is doing is synching with your email account. So say you have a POP account and your phone checks your account and retrieves 3 new messages. Then you open up your favorite desktop email application and you have it download all emails and delete them from the server. Well the next time you check that account on your phone, those emails you deleted will now be deleted from your phone as well. Like I said... a synch. The same thing goes for IMAP, although you'd expect that with IMAP.
As far as gmail goes, just use your browser. Just go to http://m.gmail.com

Use your Wireless Sync Account for email, it supports both POP/IMP and SSL POP/IMAP. Emails will NOT be deleted from the POP server, this service does not do that unless you check it manually on the Wireless Sync Web PIM. TO find out more about Wireless Sync go to www.vzw.com and go to support for devices & phones.
