My replacement Q, problem still persists!
I purchased my phone on 06/01 and everything seemed to be working fine until I noticed that when someone calls my phone and after the call is over, if I decide to save the number in my contacts, I hit SAVE and then punch in their first and last name along with the number they had called from say for ex. MOBILE and while I'm there, if I know their home and work numbers as well, I tried punching those in and it wouldn’t let me. I am only able to type in alphabets even with the ALT key selected. I called motorola and their Level 3 tech support had to help and they tried the same thing while I was on the phone with them and apparently it worked for them and said my Q was defective and go exchange it for a new one. I saw this problem a few times....
The one time I can recall specifically was when I was trying to alter my phones "voicemail" number (the one programmed under "call settings"
I store the voicemail number, followed by "p" , then my password, then "#" and finally "11"
The result is that when you dial voicemail, your phone waits, then enters your password automatically, followed by the pound key, and then hits "1 1" to get your new messages (no key strokes required)
Anyway, I noticed that following the "*86" I entered the "p" letter, and then it would not let me enter the "#" key and would only enter numbers (even with "ALT" depressed).
Finally - I backspaced over my original entry - and it seemed to work ok.
Must be someth...

Happened to me too. It's not a glitch, but it is a pretty dumb feature. Here's what you have to do.
1. Click "save" for the number you want to save.
2. Type in first and last name.
3. Go to the type of number you are saving ie: mobile, work, home, etc . . . stop when you reach the place you wish to store the number.
4. Then press the button above the home button. If you look on the lower left part of your screen it says "insert"
I think the moto people thought it was a short cut. It is, it's just a little confusing.
