I've hunted here and on google and I cannot find a way to disable the shutter sound. Has anyone done this on the Q yet?

I would like to know how to do this too. But my guess is it cannot be disabled. I noticed that many new phones with cams are locking the shutter sound.

Actually - you can do it - but you have to be a bit creative about it.

One way is to hack the registry and set the camera shutter sound to "*none*" (with asterisks). Lots of people have already done this for the annoying (and deafening) startup sound.

As for me - I don't like messing with the registry- so I did it another way:

If you goto the file manager in your phone (or use the Active Sync 'explore' link - you can expose virtually every sound on the phone and make modifications there.

I finally got rid of it!!

I downloaded the trail version of Reso Editor to edit the registry.

Once inside the registry go here

Hkey_local_machines/system/pictures/camera/oe m

Then you must re-name the shutter sound to *none* with the astricks.

Then your good to go!

Make sure you just rename the shutter sound.wav to *none* leave everything else the same!

Download Resco editor

go to Hkey_local_machines/system/pictures/camera/oe m

then change the shutter sound to *none* with the astricks instead of shutter sound.wav

yes I did this and it works.

This is just one of the hacks out there, there are others for the Q for instance shutting off that annoying message that says "message Sent" when you send a text message or the start up tune when you boot the phone. there is a big list of available hacks and tweaks at www.freewebs.com/smartq check them out..
