Q as a modem?

can i tether my Q to my mac laptop either via bluetooth or usb cable and get online?

I purchased software from pdanet and am able to use the Q as a modem with my laptop -- I don't know if it works with a mac, but you can try it -- there's a free 7 day trial

I know they say you can not use the Motorola Q as a bluetooth modem. Are you only able to use it as a modem for your laptop if you plug it straight into the computer? How are you working that?

That's called tethering, and it is included in your plan.

NO it is NOT. If you tether your Motorola Q you are violating your contact. The Q is not set to be used as modem and using it as one violates your contact agreement you signed. If and when it becomes available, it is an extra $15 charge I believe.

Isn't there free verizon software you can download for this, without needing to buy 3rd party apps?

so i spoke with verizon and they are not turning the tethering feature of the Q on yet...they suspect it will happen soon.

The Verizon software that comes w/ the air card WILL work with the Q, but is not needed. If you use the Verizon software, you'll STILL need to activate the "modem link" on the phone as listed below.

Start with the phone DISCONNECTED from your PC.

Download the Q modem driver (available here - http://studentwebs.kings.edu/andrewkonopczyk/ gadgets_stuff/apps_tools/moto_q/qdriver.zip )and have it handy in a temporary directory of your choosing.

Dial ##342587 from your Q

Enable Dial-Up Network in the screen that comes on.

Then go to accessories / modem link - make sure USB is chosen.

Click activate and plug the phone in to the PC via the USB cable.

When the New Hardware Dialog appears, select "Install from a specific locati...
