Motorola Q

I am thinking to get a Motorola Q phone and not sure if I be able to check my email outside of US, say in Cancun, Mexico. I have called a Verizon customer service twice and both of the times they told me two different things. One Verizon person told me that it will work in Mexico and I won’t have any problem to check my emails, the other one told me that it won’t work. Any of you guys know the real answer? Thanks!
