I'll probably purchase a Q in the next week. Given that some defective Qs have been returned already, are there any easy ways to identify whether a unit has been returned or refurbished?

The only way you would get a refurbished or returned Q was if you already had one and took yours in because you had a problem with it. They would swap yours for a refurbished one. If you plan on buying a Q, you are going to get a brand new one.

I feel ya, my friend. I was given a refurbished Q and it was faulty withing 14 hours of having it. I'm a warranty csr for a cell phone company; i KNOW how the game and refused to play it. When Verizon refused to assist me with getting a different phone, and told me i need 4 bad Q's before i could get a different, because I was a week past the 15 day policy, I traded w/ a co-worker to get a Treo 650. It's not perfect, but i like the Palm system better. But yes, refurbished Q's are bad news.
