Question: I want a Motorola Q, but not for internet....help!!!

Here is my problem. I would really like to have the Motorola Q for it's organizing capibilites. However, I'm not interested in getting on the internet or using email.
Here is my question. Are there any hidden charges with this phone, if I don't get a data plan?
I've tried calling both the national Verizon number and several local stores; and am getting different answers. Everyone at the National number tells me that because of the way the phone is designed, that it searches for data by itself even without you physically getting on the internet. Because of this, they say I will incur kilobite fees that will be on my bill. Everyone I've spoken to at local stores tell me the exact opposite. That I won't be charged any fe...

I know first hand that it can be done. I had a customer that bought the q but did not want to incur the kb charges. There is a feature you can take off (I believe it is called national access) and it will not allow you to use the data features of the phone. This will however impair you from being able to send picture messages. You will still be able to send text messages. Contrary to popular belief, haveing the pay-as-you-go data plan does not impair your text/pix messaging. HOWEVER, be very careful. Use the MMS system (basically the same menus you would use for phone-based text and pix) to send the image. If you inadvertently go to a website to send the image, youve accessed the web and its using Kb and hitting you for $15 every 1000kb of data. (15 hundredths of a CENT per kilobyte).
That being said, like any other Verizon phone, text is 10 cents each, recieved or sent, whther you open it or not, and Pix are 25 cents each, in and out, and all that is if you dont get a monthly text/pix package.

I purchased the motorola q for the reason of having the organizer. I do not use the internet. I have a $39.99 plan for just the use of the phone. Only problem is that there is always the worry about accessing the internet by hitting the wrong buttons or having them hit accidentally while in the purse/pocket and then you get charged. I have not had that happen yet but have caught it a few times before it connected. I am now considering the chocolate because I really miss the ringtones on a regular cell phone as compared to the standard tones and NO get it now on the Q. I have to say that the Q gets great reception wherever I go, just that I miss having a regular cell phone. PLUS< the q is slow accessing things AND as of recently , it h
