Let's keep this Thread just about the good and bad points of this phone..

I am going to start this off -

The phone is thin and very nicely made !

The phone has an incredible SPeaker phone !

The phone has the nicest keypad I have ever seen or used!

The phone's Menus are fast unlike Moto CRap !

The side buttons are placed well and dont get hit by accident every second like the Stupid 930!

The battery life so far is very good - More to test !

The Speakers are loud and crystal clear for ringers and speaker phone ! Best I have ever heard !

The outside screen can be customized any way you want.

The inside screen is very customizable as well!

The Camera is very decent and usable!

The Voice dialing is good but not as good as the Moto's.. Very close though !

The Center control can be customized to have up,down, left and right all custom options. LIke I have down taking me to bluetooth. This is awesome , believe me !

One Button Vibrate - Another Awesome Feature so needed, the * button when help goes into vibrate , The new Sams and Moto's do not have this !!

Easy to turn on Speaker phone button !

VZW leather case fits perfect and has the newer clip , very nice and smooth.

Voice Prompts where ever you want them.

So what's wrong with this phone ??????

Earpiece Volume can not be made high enough for noisy environments - This is a huge one and I hope they fix it !!

Reception - The Signal Strength is an issue. This 8300 has about 1 bar less of strength than the Sams 930 and 950 and 670 and moto's.. So what does this mean.. When you are in a Fringe area, you will have bad phone calls. It's a shame because everything else is so great.. My office is a great testing zone. I am here most of the day and I use alot of minutes , LIke 3000 or so.. I had people tell us through out the day that we are breakign up.. On the Sams and Moto's no problem here. It's just the way the LG's are built. I hope they can fix this!

Voice Quality - The voice quality when in a five bar full strength condition is a bit worse than the A950 used as a reference. It's a bit more digital on the LG but very usable. A concern but it's the design they chose!

So what do you guys think ???

Try and evaluate the same points if possibel and add any items that are of a concern !!

Thanks
Craig

I just got the phone today. And pretty much all of your points were correct, except maybe the point about reception. I have gotten very solid reception and my area in a bermuda triangle for cell reception...so I'll take anything. Lg tends to hold on a signal better than any phone I have tried. I have not tested the ear piece volume in a noisy area, so I can't really comment on that, but it has been strong so far. And if its thats loud where u are having trouble hearing, just send a text!

I love the fact that you can customize all of the directional buttons...THANK YOU VERIZON!!!! and the flash UI is pretty cool, and mine has been quite fast (some people reported that it was slow).

I wish the phone was more vertical when it was ...

see I think it is just different for different places, my lg's always show less signal at my house in a fringe area, but they have been the only ones that will not drop calls and stay connected to evdo. My 815 shows better signal but will not pull evdo and drops calls all the time, I never had that problem with my 8100 even when it showed no dars at all.

Thanks for that review. I think I am going to have to wait and see if they can correct that low ear piece volume issue before trying this phone. I had the same problem with the Razr V3I I use on Cing, but was able to hack the gain table to increase the volume. Made it a much better phone for me. I don't know that we can hack these LG's though the same way. I wonder why they would do that though as far as the low volumn. Motos are known for that, but LG's always had very good volumn in the past.

It appears yeahright may be right about the first batch not being all that good. I had no problem with the earpiece volume at all. It was as loud as you could want. Others do. I had a problem with how I sounded to others and some people don't. It may just be that the next batch to be shipped will have these issues resolved.

I have this phone and I LOVE it, but I have to laugh when phones come out and there's problems and everyone says "maybe the next batch will be better". They are ALL the same! The only way it will be different is if a software update would come out and new ones had it!

Ok, then what you are saying is that in the next batch some will have no problem with the earpiece and some will. Some will have no problem with the mic and others will. Good enough for me. Maybe i'll get one in the next batch with a good earpiece and a good mic then.

NO, that's NOT what I'm saying! theatermax said it best in another post:

Guys

There are not bad ones for the most part..

These are main line production and they can repeat the quality over and over millions of times.

They are all the same !!

They just have some issues, getting another is not going to help anyone until they come out with a rev. in a few months.

Actually, that's not true. As I'm sure you know, no two electronics compnents are ever the same. Just look at Intel and AMD. They have the most expensive, cleanest and best supervised production environments in the world and they can't repeat performance in their cpus even within the same batch. 10-20% get thrown out altogether. The rest are tested and sold for whatever speed they pass. Then look at who is making these phones and how they are made. It is no surprise at all that from phone to phone and batch to batch you will see differences.

Well, thats not neccessarily true Mary. When a software problem (minor) is identified, it is not uncommon for the software company to fix it with a minor patch, but not actually release an update yet. They will only release an update when they have several things to fix at the same time, and they feel that it is worth the cost to do that update. Until then there will be fixes in production, but not anything available to the public. Those can usually be identified by the complete version number, but even that is kept hidden from the public sometimes. It gets expensive when the updated software is actually released, so they don't want to do that very often.
