Can someone please tell step by step how I can download ringtones onto my new LG 8300.
Can it be done for free.
I have tons of music stored on my PC, can I use that.
Please tell me how STEP by STEP

go to cnet and download mp3 cutter. throw a song into the cutter and cut a clip less than 30 seconds and 350kb in size. Save the file to desktop then go to funformobile.com and click upload ringer on the left side menu. Enter you info select the file and hit send, they will convert it to a usable format when sent. Once you receive the message just hit open and the the right softkey and select save sound. now it should show up for you to set as ringer. I have not tried on the 8300, but that is how i do it on my razr and the lg8300 is supposed to allow ringers through messaging so i am guessing the process is the same. either way the cutter will help so you can minimize used space from the ringtones, if you put full songs it will fill up quick...

Make a suitable 30 sec or less MP3 file using Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). Note that you also need to download the LAME MP3 encoder in order to export MP3's in Audacity -- It's linked to from the Audacity site.
When you're done making the MP3, send an email to your10digit#@vzwpix.com with the MP3 as an attachment.
You should receive the email shortly on your phone. When you get it, open it and hit the key for "Options" and choose "Save as Ringtone."

When I do this Audacity stunt, the song I want comes out really really really fast..... can't get it to sound like the actual song for a second in order to edit it. The rest of the process works fine, but it sounds like a blip.

Sounds like you've got something wrong in the settings. Since I don't know that much about Audacity (although I use it), I recommend you dump it altogether, download it again and start from scratch.
Take too long to figure out what setting is messing with you.

when you save your files via itunes, you have to go to advanced settings and insure they are being saved/imported in AIFF. Then bring the file into Audacitty, should work great, but im not sure of what setting the sample rate should be at (cause mine wont show up right on my phone) but everything else worked perfect

if you have a transflash card there is something else you can try... another user gave these directions...
you need a data cable(the one in verizons music essentials kit works fine,) a memory card, a memory card reader, and bitpim 0.9.04 http://bitpim.org
1-create a new folder on the memory card called "ringers"
2-move all your mp3 ringers into the folder(i'm not gonna go over making them, it's been covered in a million other threads)
3-put the card back into the phone and power it on.
4-connect the phone to your pc with the data cable and make sure it's recognized by bitpim.
5-in bitpim click on the icon labeled "get phone data" in the top left.
6-select "ringtone" and then hit ok
7-when this process is finished clic...
