I just started using the LG 8300 last week. I hear an echo sound on many of my calls and if the phone is moved slightly away from my ear (1/2 inch) the volume drops drastically. Does anyone else have this problem?

Boy! Neither my wife nor I have any problems at all. I bought two 8300s a week ago and we really like the reception and the fact that, like a land line, we can hear ourselves a little bit in the ear piece. This is something pioneered by Motorola, I think (mellowpaul, a Motorola fanatic who trolls and trashes on LG forums, and who hasn't even touched an 8300), and was added by LG for the first time. It's new and we like it a lot.

If that's not what you're experiencing, I recommend you take it back and exchange it for another.

The 8300 is a terrific phone!

My wife and I also bought the phones together. My phone sounds like you're talking in a large empty room where you can hear yourself in the backround. Will take it back this Sunday.

What I really dislike about this phone is that if you move it slightly away from your ear you cant hear a thing. With my old LG that I purchased 2 years ago, I was able to move it 6 inches away and still hear fine.

I upgraded from an LG VX4400, and the 8300 has better call clarity and quality. I can hold it inches away from my ear and hear as well or better.

"Sounds" like you've got a bad phone.

For those of you haveing problems when you move the ear piece away from your ear. check in your sounds settings for voice privacy, turn it off, i think this is the problem, it's used so others can't hear your conversation.

Well now, isn't that an interesting little tidbit! Nicely done, jcoberg10.

You'll find the setting in the following:

Press OK (menu) and go to Setting & Tools, press 6 (Call Settings), and press 5 (Voice Privacy). Choose "Off."

I've just done it and so don't know how it will go...report back later. I wasn't unhappy about the ear volume, but I'll try it and see what happens.

Thanks!

Doesn't seem to make much difference. But I was already happy with the call volume.

I assume that you are not talking about 'side tone', the nice benefit that morotola phones to make them sound like a regular phone, and also to be able to hear that you haven't dropped your call?
(I don't know if LG has this or just the 'dead box'- lack of sound like most phones)
