Do you have to pay for and have v-cast music on your phone to download your own songs to it?

nope. you have two options. data cable, WMP 10, and a memory card. OR... card reader, and a memory card. the only reason you would need the actual service is if you wanted to download music straight to your phone. You would need to be in an EVDO coverage area for that. And to touch on one more thing. If you put music on your card thru the card reader. you will need to access the service menu and enable mp3s. and to play the mp3s from the controls on the outside of your phone you will have to make the play key the shortcut to MY mp3s. which will only appear after you enable them.
