Just got the word. Samsung SCH-A990, 3.2 megapixels, will be out for VZW in August. Do not buy the 8300...you can do better...just one more month...

The Melancholy Man on the dissin'-the-8300 comeback trail! We missed you, M2!
The A990 does look like a cool phone. However, it will certainly be substantially larger and heavier, as well as a good deal more expensive - just got the word. Plus, it's a skinny Samsung and you know what that means for battery life. And there's always another good LG around the corner...VX8500 Chocolate for example.
We've had two of the 8300s for about three weeks now and we're very pleased...small, loaded and lightweight, easy to use, and a great bargain. It does everything well - an excellent phone!
If you want that in a phone, pull the trigger. Or, if you don't mind playing the wait and wonder game, delay your gratification. Chances are good ...

I am not averse to the purchase of an LG if they would come out with a good phone that is a phone, and not a juke box. Ninety percent of the Forum comments concern its use as some sort of music medium. I would like a good camera, since the pictures can be sent or downloaded, and otherwise I want a good phone, and not a juke box.

yeah but you gotta pray people will be able to receive your high quality pix/flix ... cause i know that from the 8100 to the 6000 there was a problem sending pix ... regardless you have to go with you specifically want ... just trying to give you all the angles before you jump on the boat

Yegods Rever, check this out...talk about larger and heavier, the VX8500 Chocolate is a Slider... http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:5tEpeBtS I74J:www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/+vx -8500,phonescoop&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=3&ie= UTF-8
Wow, what an address.....

Forgot to mention, old chap, the VX8500 still sports only a 1.3 megapixel camera...slightly outdated for a new issue...
...
if that is your theory factor in that the samsung will be 399 on a two year contract is the word on the street and will offer a $50 rebate. Kinda of pricey. I am going to buy one it is defianetly sweet, but for most people the 8300 is a safe bet for now. I am guessing most will not want to drop that much cash. Now the one you might be kicking your self in the ass on is the 9900.
...
The initial price of the phone is peanuts compared to those monthly billings for usage.
I have not checked out the 9900 yet, but will do so; thanks for the suggestion.

"The Melancholy Man on the dissin'-the-8300 comeback trail! We missed you, M2!"
I picked on you because I've never seen any postings from you which were helpful concerning the 8300. Only in this thread have we found out what you really want in a cell phone - a great camera. There are scads of us who genuinely like the 8300 and we're not idiots for having purchased it. But your posts have nearly always had a terminal air about them, as though anyone who buys this phone is a fool on a cell phone death march.
Some of us who are happy with the phone look past your comments as comical rants, but I feel a sort of duty to expose you as the LG cell phone cynic you are so those considering the 8300 will have you in perspective. It all becom...

The Samsung SCH-A990 was made available today. It looks really great! At $399.99 it's way out of my ballpark (my wife and I got two 8300s on BOGO for $0.00), but I'll bet it's a terrific device.
Give us a review of it when you're able?

Thanks, Rever, I just checked the Phonescoop website and they say it will be available at the stores on July 24. Barring some disastrous and unforeseen circumstance, I will be there with bells on. I sure am glad I waited; patience is a virtue after all. I will let you all know what my take on it is, hoping to see you on the A990 Forum; note that the activity on the A990 Forum has already begun. The price is not a problem; I will just put it on my credit card. I was at my local VZW store just today and the retail on the 8300 was $270, so it is not all that much difference. Take care. M2.
...
well when you look at the full retail you are still paying almost twice the price. They are both great phones. But for the average cell phone user, the 8300 or the V3m is the best option right now.

I wouldn't pay $350 for that junk! I wanna phone not a camara! 😁
