Okay, this is the definitive thread on the stereo bluetooth issue with the 8300. People have been slinging all kinds of rumors like the idea that since VZW doesnt advertise it, that it must not be there. The a2dp profile that enables stereo music playback with compatible BT headset DOES exist in this phone, but since VZW has its own software in the phone, it creates some fancy footwork required on the part of the user to make it work:

The basics-
You need the 8300 and a stereo bluetooth headset such as th Motorola ht810. Also need the memory card, Transflash.

steps:
1-format the memeory card on the phone.
2-Allow MP3 playback in the programming menu of the phone.(hidden menu)
3.Load your MP3s onto the card IN THE MP3 FOLDER

Also, the Moto Stereo Bluetooth headset is now available on Verizon's website but listed 'only' under accesories for the Chocolate. You should still be able to buy it for the 8300.

Most people have already done the steps when they first bought the phone. It's just a matter of 'pairing' the phone and headset which is easy and takes seconds.

Does not work for me. I paired a stereo headset to the phone and could use it for phone conversations but I would not play wma's or Mp3 through the headphones.

I followed your instructions exactly and used the HS-12w (http://www.engadget.com/2005/08/01/nokias-hs -12w-wireless-stereo-headset/)
that supports the a2dp profile and it will not play through the headset.

Note: I did not format the card from the phone but made the right directory structure and put the MP3 files via my PC using a USB transflash FOB and the PM3 files play fine in the 8300 player - just not through the HS-12w

Okay, playing around some more and discovered that the HS-12w has a button with a music symbol on it. I pushed it and viola! It started playing the music through the headset.

So the original poster was right. a2dp is supported in the V1 software and it does work - albeit not very user friendly 🙂
