My experience

Kantoro

I work at Radio Shack. I've had experience handling and selling most of the top phones for Sprint and Cingular. I just bought a Katana of my own and decided to check what the forums said about the phone. After hearing what both sides had to say, I decided to give my own opinion.

First of, The Katana is made by Sanyo which makes it a good phone right off. Now before everyone calls me bias, notice the noun I used. Phone. While other companies focus on fitting in MP3's, megapixel cameras, and other devices into a cell phone; Sanyo's expertise and focus has always been in the actual "phone". Receptions with ANY Sanyo is amazing. How amazing? I used to sell phones in Florida, and during a storm, if you didn't have a Sanyo, you didn't have reception. Plus there batteries last longer as well. So while Sanyo phones don't normally have as many side dishes, the main course is always superior.

Now granted, its camera isn't the best. However, its not horrible either. Take the time to findle with its settings, and you'll get a good picture just about anywhere. If your looking for a great digital camera, stop looking at cell phones and go to the digital camera section. Cell phones can cram only so much into itself... least at this time.

Many are comparing it to the razr and its understandable. Its pretty much Sprint's own version of it. However there are differnces. Katana is sturdier (Or at least feels safer to customers. Though I have yet to see a RAZR come back due to snapping on itself) and Katana doesn't have the video recorder. Katana makes up for this by being a better phone and getting better reception.

Am I saying that its better then a RAZR or Blade? That depends on what you need. I know the Sanyo company gives great service, I could care less about a MP3 in my phone, and I wanted a camera. Plus I wanted a good looking phone, so Katana was the best choice for me. However, if you want an MP3, then you shouldn't get the Katana. If you want Power Vision, you shouldn't get the Katana. If you want a video recorder, then you shouldn't get the Katana. If you like an MP3, then get a Blade... however, don't pick on the Katana user just cause he doesn't have one when he didn't want a MP3 in the 1st place.

The biggest hurdle for the Katana is the placement of its internal antenna. Its on the bottom of the phone so you need to learn to not hold it at the bottom. If you can do this, its cake.

I love the phone. Its good looking, large screen, easy to use, has a camera, and excellent reception. I would recommend it to anyone. A great phone by Sanyo.

...for a fair and intelligent review of this cell phone.

This is the most cogent summary I have read about it, and it was very helpful.

Thanks for the nice reply.. I have an 8400 but my friend on my account I just got her a pink Katana which I will give her tomorrow. She had the 8200 before so this phone should be great for her. The ringers that come with this phone are at least as loud as on the 8200 right? My friend doesn't do internet so this was perfect for her. I wanted this phone for the longest time but I had the 8300 after the 8200 and I was hooked on the louder AAC/ma4 ringers so I chose the 8400 instead. I didn't care about the mini card or playing MP3's but coming from the 8300 I just wanted more space and bluetooth which I got both..

But after playing with my friends Katana all morning I was like wow I love this phone. I was on an old grandfathered vision pl...
