Bolting VZ 5 months before 2yr contarct ends?

I'm an 8 year loyal user of VZW. I have two lines with them on a family shared plan.

Unfortunately due to job requirements I have to change one line to Cingular. This line has 5 months before my 2 year contract expires.

1. Will I still have to pay the whole $175 fine or it can be prorated? If not, is there way to somehow talk VZW out of this (I'm still retaining another line, I was loyal, etc.)?

2. I will have to port the number to Cingular. What will happen with second line which's on a same Family plan for $9.99/mo. Will it "assume" full ownership of the plan or I have to do something else?

I'll appreciate any help. Thanks!

You can not just 'get out' of a contract. There will b...

I would just get your employer to pay the ETF if they're demanding that you use Cingular. Or they can wait it out. That seems silly to me.

I agree with the employer paying the cost of the ETF. Another option, if you wanted to consider it, is to keep a Cingular number for 5 months until you are out of contract with VZW, then port the number over and everything will be fine. From a numbers standpoint, paying the ETF or doing as I suggested will probably be a wash.

When you cancel the primary line on your family share plan on Verizon you will have to put the 2nd line on a primary plan of $39.99 or higher.

WITH a new contract term as well on the remaining line...

The best solution I see is the forward your number thing until you are out of contract...or carry 2 handsets...as most folks here on PS do!

Don't you guys feel like you're wasting Tapir's time and everyone elses here by trying to push politics on his personal situation back on him? Why do you care what his new employer is willing to pay for?

Stick to the topic.

As for my opinion, Tapir, here's what I would do:

1. Take the line that is the second number and make that the primary number (can be done with a phone call)

2. Change Family Share plan to the lowest package.

3. Turn off all other services to the phone that you will retire (ie. insurance, text messaging, etc)

Hope that helps

t3rmin8r, that's a really good advise. Thank you!

Everybody else, thank you for your concerns as well.

It's not politics when it can directly affect the cost of the advice you are giving somebody. Should the employer be willing to pay the termination fee, tapir now has multiple options available to him that wouldn't be considered viable otherwise.

Could we have worded the desire for the employer to pay the termination differently? Probably.
