Good morning!
I just signed up with Verizon this past Saturday... I have had Sprint for a few years now, and other than not having a decent connection at home, I was happy with what I had.

Soooo, I made the switch to Verizon thinking my connection would be better, and right now I'm pretty disappointed. I can't figure out if it's the service/connection or this particular phone that is the problem.

Both the phone connection as well as the network (web) connection drop out constantly.. popping in and out on a regular basis. When I do have a decent, non-crackling voice call, I can barely hear--even with the volume on it's highest setting. (im not a 97 year old woman, but I'm starting to wonder...hehe )

Has anyone else had similar probl...

You might have a bad phone. The audiovox 8910 is a brand new release. There might be a few that made it through quality control that are bad. It happens.

I suggest you exchange your 8910 out at your local VZW store. They can give you a replacement on spot of course.

I am not sure where Castle Rock is so I cannot say if you need a tri-mode phone or not.

If anything I would recommend switching to the audiovox 9900 if you wish to retain all the same functions plus a higher end camera phone.

If you want to try another camera phone, the samsung A670 seems pretty good. I have alot of customers satisfied with this phone.

You might have to pay a slightly higher price depending on if you switch to another phone type. As always give the...

Thank you!
This is the first time I have not purchased a Samsung... the A670 was another I was looking at, so many choices I just jumped at the lowest price HAHAHA.

So, in your experience, is there a difference in phone and reception quality? I had heard that sometimes different phone just get better reception than others... is this true?

try the LG vx6100 or the samsung a670 (in that order)... If they don' cut the mustard, try a Motorola V710. 🙂

If there's ever any question about coverage in "area X" I immediately exclude the audiovox and the free nokia from the sales pitch... the LGs get good coverage, samsungs are so-so, and the motorola v710 is the best IMHO.

Well then leads to another question...
I stared at all the different phone for a good hour, poor sales guy had nothing to tell me...

He did say, however, that this partiuclar audiovox was made by LG.. is that incorrect, or just doesn't matter in this case?

Of course the moto is a great phone -- 300 bucks later, I'd hope it's not a piece. 😁

Personally, I'm waiting for mac to come out with some fabulous multi-syncing music playing vippy-vappy communication talkie-tv phone-ish device... but, until that becomes a reality, or reality hits me, I've got to figure this quirky location out.

Yup. Sponge is right.

Audiovox makes Audiovox phones. They used to be a part of Toshiba.

LG makes LG phones. I don't know who or what created their company.

The motorola v710 is a very solid, knock down phone that won't give you any problems if you don't mind sinking the money into it. It does have minor bluetooth capacity to work with the wireless headsets and wireless speakerphones. I know that motorola is making an optional software patch to unlock the bluetooth for work with a pc or mac. When that will come out I have NO idea.

I don't know much about the LG-VX6100 yet except it is supposta be a much better version of the VX6000 that is on closeout.

I agree with Sponge though. LG first for raw signal, Audiovox 2nd, and the ...

LG is a Korean electronics company. They bought Zenith in 1995. LG used to be known as Goldstar. They have a North American wireless division based in San Diego which is also where Qualcomm is based.

I'm a little gun shy of the samsung series. We got burned in the samsung a310 fiasco.

What was wrong with the a310s? I'm asking because my father has one... has to charge it every day... no other problems I know of, but he's not a power user.

Thanks...

Ohhhhhh interesting. He had said that audiovox never makes their phones.. always buys others, and even pointed out one in particular that was "never a good phone" -- i forget which that was.

OK... so, when I was in the store, I was trying to decide between the LG VX-7000 and the Samsung SCH-A670 (and the audiovox I purchased)... the deciding factor, without being able to just sit in the store all day and play with it... was the price. All seemed similar in the features I wanted.

I need to be able to talk on the phone. And, I need to be able to get online.. when I'm not at home and don't need the laptop.

And while I'm thinking about it, he also said that although no one will "support" data connections between a cell phone and a power...

In theory, you can get online via the v710's Bluetooth... Havent' seen a powerbook make it work, but Ipaq and pocket PC handhelds seem to work.

Erhm, Audiovox phones vary by manufacturer. The 8600 and 8900 are made by Curitel for example, while the 8910 and 9900 are made by Toshiba.

No, actually Audiovox does not manufacture their own phones. They simply market, distribute, and brand phones made other companies. For example, the CDM-8000 series is made by Curitel, while the 9000 series is made by Toshiba.

Then there are the PDA phones and smartphones, like the 4100 made by Wistron, and the new 5600 made by HTC. Audiovox does not make phones.

Now... that will change (sort of) when the UT Starcom buyout is complete. UT Starcom does make their own phones, and soon they will own Audiovox Communications.

But that deal hasn't closed yet, and no phones have been announced under that arrangement yet.

It's not your phone, it's the service. Verizon service sucks if you're in a building. You don't have good service in your home because Verizons awesome air waves can't penetrate a paper bag

I can agree, but I'm being very sarcastic here... We have a nuclear power plant within 15 miles, and in several of their "hardened" buildings (offices etc are hardened... *shrug*) nobody's cells will work... so yeah, our waves suck inside buildings. ;-)

factually speaking now:

Aluminium siding and aluminized glass totally hose most cell signals, as do rebar-reinforced concrete structures.

Accccck. Now I'm not sure what to do.
My sprint account isn't canceled yet.. I have no contract with them, however, So I can cancel at any time no penalties.

Why switch NOW? -- my 2 year old helped my phone go swimming in a lovely apple juice pond.So i figured now was as good a time as any to see if i could find better connections.

Options now.. new service, new company -- or new phone, same company. I currently qualify for a discount of 150 off a new phone through sprint.. so that will save me cash -- if i want to sign a 1 year contract.

So.. new service, new company - 2 year contract
or.. same company, same service - oodles of cash or 1 year contract.

whatever happened to bartering???
all i wanted to do was find a service i ...

hey thanks -- i thought what i had was a tri-mode (audiovox 8910)

is there something i should be adjusting in the settings that would help utilize this feature better? I have the understanding the the mode the phone uses, is automatic (the phone chooses the best mode)

hmmm.. i missed commenting on the aluminum.
unless i'm completely ignorant of current home construction supply standards...
my house is wood... with metal-ish nails..and common-joe glass. i do, however have a partially concrete basement.. and the last time i checked there were no major air wave distorters within view of the lot .. and yes.. i have quite the view. wish i could see the cell waves comin.. maybe that would help me resolve the issues.

Apologies for stereotyping, but here goes...

You're a mac user, you're used to paying 2-3 times more for hardware that's comparable to the "other(cheaper and more ubiquitous)" brand in performance/features already, so go try a v710 for a few days, you may like it. 🙂

Sorry if I angered the Apple gods, sweet hardware, but the U/I needs some more help, and OSX is looking nice but still not quite it. 🙂

ROTFLMAO!!!
Bonus point for you. You're right. And the 710 is more than tempting. Big hefty manly man's toy and I absolutely want one. Especially with the bluetooth possibilites. I know I would adore it.

However, I've left out.. this phone - the one I am trying to finalize my happiness with -- is the 4th in 2 years. Not because I have to have the newest, best toys, but because for some reason I have no help from the phone Gods with keeping a phone in working condition. Mother Nature's phone department kills my phones on a regular basis.

Thus.. unless I want an angry husband, I can not spend oooooodles of extra cash on a new phone.. no matter how much I try the crying technique. and besides.. priorties.. the more money one spends on no...

$3.99/month Wireless Phone Protection Plan...

$50 and you have a new v710 if anything happens to it.

The recall is just rumor now, and I doubt anything will come of it. And if something does come of it, they'll probably swap out the phones anyway.

Webgirl,

You might want to check the Moto V710 forum and user reviews first. I recall that Verizon mucked with the Bluetooth and you can't do much with it. It's limited to use with an earpiece, and I'm not sure what else.

Sorry if this has been brought up before. I think that the 8910 is all digital with Verizon (once again Verizon limited it). Perhaps a trimode phone would work better for you.

Before I chose a carrier, I borrowed cell phones from my friends to see which service worked in my home. I lived in a canyon then.

Good luck!

I'll either use Win2K pro(my gateway/packetwhacker is actually an old Win95 machine... Less useful to hackers ;-) ), or RedHat/slackware for more "robust" computing... Alas I live in a windows dominated world, but I have my RedHat machine (bit out of date, but still does all the "nifty" stuff I need it to in a non-windows machine.)

If the next gen OSX ever gets ported to x86 I'll give it a crack, being a BSD/derivative type system.

If I ever get a digital video camera I'll probably look into getting a Dual G5... Mmmm... Raw horsepower. 🙂

OHhhh seee, I KNEW IT! A linux-er.

FYI.. i also use windows machines, right here at this desk. The PC domination can't be entirely avoided by anyone.. but i have faith in my fruity friends.

and yes, thank you, this new phone i did purchase the protection plan.. she's slow but eventually catches on.

so my excuse then goes back to
$$$$ 4 nonmac toys = $ for mac toys
😁 have to wait til my husband would like to buy himself a new snowboard -- to justify spending too much on a new phone. (thats the equal toy purchasing opportunity rule)
