Phone Selection

I'm not trying to start a war here, but I keep reading "Verizon doesn't have any cool phones" ... can someone tell me why that is? I mean as it stands now they have at least one phone that would probably meet your needs of feature combination. The only thing I could think of is the very small % of people who want BT w/ OBEX. Other than that I can NOT think of a popular feature that a Verizon phone doesn't have. Here's my list of features so far:

* Camera: Video, Flash, Zoom, Memory Card
* Speakerphone
* Color Screen: Inside and Outside
* Voice Commands

What else could people possibly want in a phone? (Again), other than the small % of people who want BT w/ OBEX.

People want to upload their pics and ringtones for free, since pics and ringtones cost so much. The day that obex will be enabled is the day that mobile web will have the ability to access p2p file sharing programs.

Can't people do this by buying a data cable? Im not trying to be sarcastic, but would'nt this be a way to work around the BT issue with VZW? or do they block that too?

Nope. Data Cable + Third Party Software = Free Ringtones, Games, Pix, etc.

And that's where you've hit the nail on the head. Verizon's data services are definitely a sore point. With us. As for the handsets themselves? Verizon may offer some handsets that GSM carriers enjoy...but you can't use them like they were intended.

I had no idea that GIN apps are DRM, and I still haven't found anything stating they are. But it would make sense. Therefore, besides VZW stating they would terminate your service if you were caught sharing GIN apps, apparently it's not possble to do so at all with DRM on them. BTW, you can actually share ringtones currently, as long as they're sent as midi files through pix messaging, which still excludes GIN ringtones.

So I'm guessing that open BT phones would only allow p...

Just because the phone can use GPS, does not mean that it is enabled...that would be my guess.

I am one of those complaining individuals who thinks that verizon's phones SUCK

#1. Always a step behind. It seemed that they were the last carrier to even have camera phones on their lineup. My buddy has sprint and he got a camera phone WAY before me... then when Verizon finally came out with a camera phone (VX6000), other carriers had Video handsets available.

#2. Verizon has some of the ugliest handsets on the planet. Nothing sleek, sexy and useable. Just bulky and ugly. No Razor like phone for at least another year (Surprise Surprise)

#3. Bluetooth Yea its on one phone and on a highend PDA... But let's not forget that they disabled the bluetooth in order to Force you to spend money with them... Yea you could get a cable... but t...

Yea you could get a cable... but trust me some people are not smart enough to buy a cable and get third party software. Some of us like blue tooth for functionality of swapping info from other devices we have...

again, why would we charge money for GIN apps, if you could share them from phone to phone. pleeease, be logical.

The only reason I have verizon is becuase the service is unparallel in San Diego... I rarely drop a call or loos

Why don't you figure out how to store your GIN apps without making them available to bluetooth, rather than cutting blue tooth out of the picture. GIN = LAME. I would rather have the ability to share my address book with my powerbook, and PDA rather than get some lame ass Britney Spears Ring tone. Are you guys going after business users or High Scoolers?

Cool. but isn't great reception just a little more important then having a really thin phone with neato camera features?
